As I walk into Marston Science Library with my backpack overloaded with notes from practically every tutoring company known to Gainesville, my coffee in one hand, and my laptop in the other, I look around and cannot help but feel the slight urge to curl up in a ball and cry or, at least, nap until summer officially starts. With finals approaching slowly but surely, college students find themselves stressing over exams and grades. While I should probably be doing the same, I, more often than not, find myself thinking of things to do in order to procrastinate. If given enough time, I bet that I could probably write a book about this, but here are my top choices.
Hammocking
Now that winter is over and spring is in full swing, Gainesville finally has the perfect weather for hanging up the hammock. Whether it is by Plaza of the Americas or by the Broward Pool, you can always find somewhere to hang and chill. If you are staying for summer, I would definitely recommend investing in one.
Learning How To Skateboard
Now, this may seem silly to some, but if we are procrastinating, we might as well get some use out of it. I have never been able to skateboard, but this method of transportation may even be useful. If you already know how to skateboard, there is still so much more to try! Try Free-Line skates, longboarding, penny boarding, an electric skateboard, or anything else to avoid studying.
Binge-Watching Netflix
This is pretty obvious and probably one of my favorites. Try using the “My List” feature on Netflix and see how your responsibilities start piling up!
Learning About Politics
These political elections have been some of the most controversial and you may want to be informed the next time when you open up an article. Most us can vote now, so get educated and actively participate in the next election.
Reading
I could be reading about what my exams are actually going to be on. However, let’s face it, that's no fun. I would recommend anything by Malcolm Gladwell. However, getting lost in a good fantasy novel never hurt anyone either.
Following A Recipe
Nowadays, it seems like every other video on my Facebook timeline is a 30-second cooking video. At this point, I would probably make anything from Oreo churros to avocado stuffed chicken.
Working Out
Summer is just around the corner! It is definitely time to get up and get active. While you are at it, reward yourself after a good workout and go tanning by the pool. The pool provides a perfect way to cool off and a tan will only better prepare your summer body!
Disclaimer: I do not condone procrastination. Fun is temporary, but your GPA is forever!
