The semester is over and you can finally let out a sigh of relief. An entire month of not having to study for an exam or doubling the size of your punctuation to meet the minimum page requirement for an important paper seems like a blessing. What about the times you find yourself alone in your bedroom with nothing to do? Here is a brief list of all the possible things you could be doing this holiday season to minimize your boredom.

1. Get a job

Being a broke college student is fairly common. Lots of stores at malls are hiring seasonal workers this time of year, it's a great way to meet new people and the extra cash is an added bonus.

2. Meet up with old friends

Since you are in town for a bit of time might as well hit up some of your old contacts. It's easy for people to become lost in their own lives especially in college, we often tend to forget to check up on our friends back home. Planning for a time to meet will give you something to do and show that person you still care.

3. Volunteer

There are many people who are less fortunate than others, it's easy to find lots of local organizations that are looking for extra help. Volunteering this holiday season will not only brighten up their spirits but yours as well.

4. Challenge yourself

Take this break as an opportunity to reflect on yourself. Don't be afraid of doing things out of your comfort zone. Maybe get a new haircut, or maybe go backpacking in Europe, the possibilities are endless. Let go and enjoy this time of your life.

5. Sleep more

This one is a no-brainer. While in college, we're all too stressed to get the right amount of sleep every night. Take this time to enjoy being able to sleep in until 1 pm it will be over soon before you know it.

6. Binge watch holiday movies

No matter what your religion or beliefs are a good holiday classic never hurt anyone.

7. Spend time with your family

As cheesy as this last one sounds it's true. This break is a chance for you to spend good quality time with your family. Let them know just how much you love and appreciate them.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
