7 Parts Of Life That Will Always Be More Important Than Your 4.0 GPA

As college students, it can be so easy to get fixated on that 4.0 GPA and get upset when we don't get anywhere near it. Sometimes college is a lot different from high school and attaining that same perfect GPA becomes a lot harder than it used to be. But this semester it's important to realize that there are so many other things more important than attaining that 4.0 and here are just a few of them. Because after all, your GPA is just a number, it doesn't define you!

1. Your mental health.

You won't be able to do very well in the classroom if your mental health is not where it should be. If you need help, be sure to get it. It will never be worth risking your mental health over a grade in a class. Put yourself first and the rest will follow.

2. Your physical health.

Going off from above, your physical health is also way more important than any grade in any class. If you're sick, there is no way that you will be able to perform well in the classroom. So listen to your friends, go to the health center, and get better so that you can do well both in and out of the classroom.

3. Your happiness.

Overall, this is always the most important thing. If you're not happy in your major, change it. There are so many other majors and careers that might make you the happiest person in the world! Don't feel trapped in your major because of expectations set for you by your family or friends. Speaking of friends, if you're not happy with your friends, let go of the toxic ones! It's okay to realize that someone is not worth being friends with if it means you'll be happy again.

4. Your friends.

You can't choose your family, but you can choose your friends! In college, your friends become the closest thing to your family when you're hundreds of miles from home. Don't blow off your friends because you think you need to spend the entire weekend in the library. Make time for your friends; you're going to need them and they're going to need you.

5. Calling your family.

You will never be too busy to call your family. Whether you realize it or not, they miss you more than you know. So make time for them. And not just your mom and day, don't forget your grandparents too. They love hearing from their little grandchild who is now all grown up!

6. Making time for yourself.

With all the hustle and bustle of college, it can be hard sometimes to make time for yourself. But it is so important to make that time. Whether it be art, journaling or taking a run, find that one thing that helps you to de-stress and do it. We always find time for those around us and for our school work, but we hardly make any time for ourselves. Make this semester the time that you make time for yourself; you'll thank yourself later.

7. Having some fun.

You can't spend the whole semester worrying about grades and internships and whatever else gets thrown your way. Don't forget to have some fun, too. Whether it be going out to a bar or frat party or just having a girls' night in, take some time to have fun! College is also about the memories made and the people you meet!

College can be stressful, especially when we put such high expectations on ourselves! But make this next semester about you and find what works best for you. There are plenty of other things more important than a 4.0 GPA!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
