7 Things College Girls Miss About Their Sisters

My sister is my best friend and I’m barely surviving without her (and her closet).

Recently, I went away to college and moved away from my sister. Although I didn't think I would, I miss her like crazy.

1. Her Weird Obsessions

Personally, my sister loved horror movies. Everyone has that one weird thing that they absolutely love to do all the time. I never thought I’d miss my sister’s weird obsession with horror movies, especially because I hate them, but to my surprise, I miss her forcing me to watch them with her.

2. Sister Slumber Parties

One of the things I personally miss the most. You know when you are having a really bad day and just need a friend to snuggle up next to? Well having your best friend right upstairs makes that super easy. I miss just crawling into my sister’s insanely comfortable bed at midnight and watching Netflix or talking and laughing like crazy people.

3. Having a Person Who Knows All The Best Ways to Cheer You Up

Nobody knows how to cheer me up like my sister. She knows that my favorite food is soup, that I love binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy, going for hikes, and most importantly, she knows the crude humor that makes me laugh my head off. She’s had a lifetime to figure out exactly how to cheer me up and that’s a gift that my new friends at college just don’t have yet.

4. Loosing a Great Wingman

I get really awkward when responding to texts from a guy. I don’t know about you, but I overanalyze and read wayyyyy too into things. My sister isn’t scared to be like “Shut up Tori. You’re being a drama queen” and therefore prevent me from sending some really stupid texts. I guess part of growing up is learning to text guys on your own, but I really wish she was here to tell me to shut up.

5. Having a Second Closet

I really didn’t think I was that dependent on my sister’s closet until I left for college. I know realize that I do not own a single pair of boots, any casual dresses, or any tops that I like. Forget about my sister coming to visit, just tell her to send her closet in a box and that should be good enough for a few months.

6. Getting Baked Goods All The Time

I apologize for those of you who don’t have sisters that bake 24/7. I don’t know how you live, but there’s nothing I miss more than her slutty brownies and the nights her friends would have cake offs in our kitchen and let me be the judge. If you couldn’t tell, sis, I’d love for you to send me some food. :)

7. Having a Convenient Best Friend

I never had to worry about driving to a friend’s house when I needed a hug or calling up a friend with boy problems. I could walk right upstairs or into the living room and my best friend would just be sitting there, ready. She never turned me away or judged me for my issues. She’d just sit and listen and offer advice or comfort. She’s a person I’m never afraid to tell anything to. Also, if you haven't seen the movie Sisters, I one hundred percent recommend watching it with your sister.

Tears flow down my cheek as I conclude this article because I truly do miss my sister more than anything, even Jersey bagels. My sister and I have bracelets that say “sister by chance, best friends by choice.” It may be cheesy, but it’s incredibly true. My sister is my best friend and I’m barely surviving without her (and her closet).

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
