No, you are not the only one. I do not have plans for the summer either. In exactly four weeks I will be back home (Manhattan) with no job, no plans, nothing lined up for me. If you are reading this and you already have plans for the summer, I am happy for you. If you do not, like myself, below are just a few suggestions.
1. Take summer or online classes.
This suggestion is perfect for you if you are in college. Whether you are trying to get ahead or catch up, taking a summer class or two will keep you productive. That way when the next semester rolls around, your brain and body will not be stuck in summer mode.
2. Binge watch that TV show you always wanted to but never had time to.
This is your chance! Netflix exists. Hulu exists. YouTube exists. Hop on that train! There are so many shows. I suggest start with the most popular ones.
3. Volunteer your time and skill.
Look up a non-profit organization that is looking for someone with your abilities. Since you are not getting paid in cash, make sure that you enjoy whatever you are doing. Warning: you will be paid in guilt-free happiness knowing that you did something for someone else. Have you heard of Sing For Hope? Look it up.
4. Come up with a routine and stick to it.
I have always wanted to wake up early enough to see the sun rise. If your plan is to have pizza for breakfast and cereal for dinner than go for it. The point is to prove to yourself that you can commit to something.
5. Take a long walk.
You can do this with a partner or alone. Walking is good for the mind. Give it a try.
6. Catch up with family and friends.
If you want to make sure that you have somewhere to stay or someone to go to for help in the future you better hop on this one quick.
7. Sleep in.
Shut your phone off. Switch the mode on your alarm clock off. When was the last time you did not get abruptly woken up by an alarm?
Summer is the time when you will have the least amount of responsibilities. So go crazy! But not too crazy.
I really hope I get around to at least three things on this list. If you actually end up taking my advice, please let me know how it goes.
