7 things everyone in Charleston understands…
Whether you grew up in or near Charleston, moved there later on or attend college there. I feel there are a list of specific things only those understand. From the weather to the food, us Charlestonians, we get it!
- There are no such things as seasons. It is either hot or cold.
- The way it feels in the morning when you wake up will totally change by the time you come home.
- 5 o’clock traffic isn’t a thing. It should be called 4-6 o’clock traffic. Because trying to cross the Ravenel Bridge at 4pm to go to Mount Pleasant, is almost an impossible task.
- Pedestrians and drives have a love hate relationship. As a driver, it’s pretty certain you will almost hit a handful of walkers or bikers in your time of living in Charleston. And as a pedestrian, cars seem to be never paying attention or giving you the right away.
- Direction. From the one way streets to the two block roads… Explaining where something in Charleston is typically consists of, “all the way down Calhoun, near the marina, next to the really big house.” Our directions may be vague but once you live there long enough you’ll understand.
- There is no city in the south with better food and restaurants than Chucktown. Every corner you turn there is somewhere to pop in a grab a bite. From the quick but yummy Ladels on Calhoun, to Stars on upper King, to Circa 1886 down on Wentworth Street. The food is bound to be delicious.
- Oh and the people. Charleston may be smaller in population but people sure are interesting. We flood with tourists during the warm weather and college kids come from every which way. I have met people from all corners of the world.
Charleston knows how to keep things interesting. This list could continue for a while, but I’m sure you get it by now! We love our city, from the weather to the culture. Charleston people just tend to understand one another.
