This past weekend was Father’s Day. The day where dads were celebrated for their dad jokes, dad attire, and all things dad. There are so many reasons I love my own dad even when he drives me crazy. I can’t deny that despite all his goofy dad moments I can’t help but say my dad is the best. There are so many different types of dads and so many stereotypical dad qualities out there. No matter how much some dads try to deny it, every dad has done at least one of these seven dad things.
1. Dad Jokes
The most obvious dad thing is the jokes Dads love to tell. My own dad is great at this. I can't tell you the endless amount of times I've heard the classic "Hi Hungry, I'm Dad," joke. Even though my dad has his classic jokes a lot of my dad's jokes are actually pretty funny.
2. Car Talks
Ever since I went away to college the phone calls home have become a daily thing. I usually talk to my mom first, and when I do talk to my dad, he doesn't really like to do much talking. He ask the typical "how was my day," and "how's school," but the question I can always count on to get from my dad is "how's your car?" My dad doesn't like talking on the phone much, so when we do talk, he's usually making sure my car is fine, and even when it is, he'll still end up asking me about it during the next phone call.
3. Making sure the doors are locked... 10 times
This could just be my dad, but I can't explain the amount of times I've seen him get up and make sure all the doors in our house were locked about 10 different times. I love him for this because he is looking out for our safety, but sometimes I think my dad being his dad self finds making sure all the doors are locked a part of his dad duties. Not to mention screaming from the couch "Did you close the garage?!"
4. Don't worry, dad will fix it
From one weird noise in my car to a broken sink, my dad will attempt to fix the problem himself before he calls for professional help. It's a classic dad move when one little noise turns into your dad taking apart your entire car and coming to the conclusion that you need a new battery.
5. Life advice that is surprisingly good
It's very typical to run to our moms for certain types of advice, but sometimes we forget just how much wisdom our dads carry. Yes, sometimes it's a bit of a hit and a miss, but when our dads do give us good advice, it's usually the most honest thing we've ever heard.
6."The dad couch"
If your dad doesn't have a specific chair he sits at every day while he watches TV is he really your dad? The one single chair in my living room is usually where I can find my dad sitting, and when he's not sitting there, the whole room just looks off. Props to the dads out there with a recliner chair.
7. He is 100 percent selfless
There is no denying that any real dad would do absolutely anything for their kids. My dad would give me, my mom, and my siblings the clothes on his back if it meant we were happy. So thanks, dad, for always putting us first. You really are the definition of a great man and an even better father.
