Every one typically has an idea of what kind of profession they’d like to go into once they grow up. All throughout high school I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to go into. I would change that idea over and over again. It took me until my senior year to realize that I wanted to be a teacher. Now that I look back, I don’t know how I didn’t realize that I was destined to be a teacher, there were so many signs.
You know you're destined to be a teacher when…
- You catch yourself getting way too excited over colorful and enticing objects. You can’t help but stop at the arts and crafts section at Walmart, or even the toy aisle every single time you walk in. You just have to, no questions asked.
- Decorations are a must. I don’t know about you guys, but even on my dorm room door I have decorations for each holiday, no matter how corny it may be (don’t worry, I even decorated for Valentine’s Day). Because, let's be honest, really you're just practicing for when you have your own classroom!
- Every time you see a baby or a little kid anywhere in sight, you have to fight the urge to stop smiling at them so that you don’t seem like a total creep. (Believe me, the temptation is brutal).
- Whether it is colored pencils, sharpies, pens or pretty much any colorful utensil, you have to have it, and you want the biggest pack.
- If any of your friends need help with their homework, they know they can count on you because you’re the first one to volunteer, even if you’re not completely sure of the subject.
- Coloring is your favorite activity. If you have a pack of crayons and paper, you can be entertained for hours.
- You catch yourself treating your friends as if they are little kids. You find yourself trying to give advice such as “put yourself in someone else’s shoes” and using the phrase “what’s the magic word.”This happens so often, you probably don’t even catch yourself half of the time. If you can relate to most of these signs, chances are that you’re destined to be a teacher.
