The 7 Stages of Staying Home For Spring Break

And all the emotions in between.

The 7 Stages of Staying Home For Spring Break

1. Why is everyone going on vacation in the middle of March?

Okay, maybe not everyone thinks this. But for someone who has their head stuck in the stand 90% of the time (cough cough...me), seeing your other classmates post pictures of plane wings and fancy waterfalls is quite jarring in the middle of March. It usually takes a few of these pictures for it to sink it...oh, wait, it's spring break season.

2. Oh, wait, it's spring break. When everyone takes fancy trips.

You start to wonder if it's too late to book a plane ticket. Not necessarily to somewhere in the Caribbean or in Europe-just anywhere. To Montgomery, or Toledo, or Mesa. Anywhere with something that looks cool on Instagram.

Then you check your bank account. Reality sinks in. You're not going anywhere this break.

3. But it's okay, I have lots of fun things to do, too!

You don't have to travel to have fun. There's lots of great things that you can do at home. Such as:

4. Getting to work on some financial aid applications.

FAFSA isn't going to do itself! Neither are the scholarship esays (or the loan applications when you fail to get the scholarship essays done in time). Spring break is the perfect time to get that money stuff out of the way so that you don't have to worry about money over the summer.

5. And catching up on my sleep.

If a college student was asked to list the things they were short on, "sleep" would probably be on the top of the list. (That and "cash," of course.) A spring break at home is the best time to make up for lost time-assuming that you don't have plans, of course, what's stopping you from sleeping until 1 pm? Or taking a power nap in the middle of the day? Or staying up all night to sleep during the day? The possibilities are endless.

6. Or work on my writing, or my homework, or all the other things on my unmoving to-do list.

If you're like me, your to-do list is always the same length during the school year because you are always concerned with school/what's on TV. With all this extra time you have during spring break, it's the perfect time to catch up on the things you need to do for yourself, your family, or your creative pursuits. If, of course, you're not sleeping.

7. Oh, well.

Maybe next year, I'll have enough foresight to plan a cool spring break trip, too. For now, Instagram stalking and trips out to the backyard to take out the trash will have to be enough.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
