Holiday breaks are the best time to reunite with your high school friends that attend different colleges. You guys haven’t seen each other probably since the summer, so a nice hangout session has been long overdue. Here are the seven stages everyone goes through when reconnecting with high school friends.
1. Small talk
Of course, you need to start with the whole “Hi how are you?! I’ve missed you!” talk. You usually ask how they are, how their family is, and of course, the all-important questions about how their pets are doing.
2. College discussion
Talking about college is an obvious conversation that is going to happen. You just need to see how classes are going, if they’ve picked a major, how their roommate/new friends are, etc.
3. Reminiscing
Next will probably come the discussion of the good ol' days of high school. Memories will be shared about embarrassing outfits worn, old crushes, and probably some tears when you remember how much easier high school is. Laughs will be shared and smiles will be present. These memories usually bring on the discussion of other high school students, which brings me to the next stage.
4. Gossiping about old classmates
“What happened to so and so? Did you hear that so and so did this?!” This is a pretty accurate representation on how these conversations go. It’s always entertaining to hear about the crazy shenanigans old classmates are involved in.
5. Learn the juicy details
Let’s face it, what we really want to know about these friends are the new, crazy things they’ve been up to. Are you failing this class? What types of parties are you going to? Are you still a virgin? Do you have a boyfriend? Did you gain weight? Because we’re all nosy people that just need to know this stuff.
6. Competition
Usually this is the time when we all compete: who really goes to the best school. We all want to brag about how awesome the parties are, how our school is known for the best academics, how we have the cutest boys, or even the most fun sporting events. Even if we don’t realize we’re doing this, we probably are.
7. Nap time
Say your goodbyes, tell them you’ll see them next break, and go take that nap you deserve. Because hanging out with high school friends brings on a strange amount of information. Your brain is overloaded with new news, information on other classmates, and crazy details you could not believe.
While these seven stages may seem a bit overwhelming, reconnecting with high school friends is amazing. You never really realize how much you miss them until you finally see them. Appreciate and love the time you spend with them this break because you probably wont see them again until the next one!
