7 Trends To Look Out For This Spring

With a new season come new fashion trends. The springtime is a confusing time for college students when it comes to the question of “what to wear?” (especially if you go to school in New England). It is snowing one day, seventy-five and sunny the next, and a borderline hurricane the day after that. With the weather constantly fluctuating throughout the spring season it is difficult to decide on an outfit.

On-campus trends are very different than what is seen on the runways. Even I can admit that as beautiful as high fashion clothes are, they are rarely appropriate or convenient for an average students life. So rather than telling you about this seasons high fashion trends, I am giving you some insight on what is popular this season on college campuses everywhere. With that said, here are seven spring trends as seen on campus.

1. Sneakers (white recommended)

Due to Adidas being the trendiest brand on the market this year, casual sneakers have made a huge come back and are perfect for spring. They keep your toes warm and dry (considering it’s still a little chilly out), but are less heavy than boots. Recommended brands: Adidas, Converse, Vans, Keds.

2. Distressed ankle jeans

The denim trend for this season is ankle jeans, which is greatly unfortunate for tall girls like me considering a “normal” pair of jeans fit like ankle jeans on me. Anyways, ankle jeans (specifically distressed ones) are easy to pair with any outfit and instantly give you the laid back look popular for the spring season.

3. Trench coats

Considering it rains seventy percent of this season, raincoats are a wardrobe must. This year the weather appropriate trend that every college girl should have in her closet is a trench coat. They look stylish and keep everything from your neck to your knees dry (covering more of your body than a typical rain coat)

4. Plaid blanket scarfs

The 90’s trend of plaid is slowly coming back, but in the form of scarfs. A plaid scarf instantly makes your outfit look classier and is a great layering piece for the spring. Blanket scarfs are especially good for this time of year because they work as an easy layer to take on and off throughout the fluctuating temperatures of the day.

5. Chokers

Chokers came back and I love them. They are especially perfect for the spring because they give off a somewhat bohemian vibe, perfect for music festivals, spring concerts and any other outdoor springtime activities you partake in.

6. Off the shoulder

Anything off the shoulder says, “I’m casual and laid back, I don’t care that my sleeves aren’t on my shoulders”. Similar to chokers it ties into the bohemian style that always comes back as the nice weather returns. Dresses, tops, rompers or sweaters…any off the shoulder item is on trend for this spring.

7. Joggers

For any trendy yet sporty people out there, this is the trend for you. Joggers are in trend for both guys and girls this season. They are the best of both worlds when it comes to comfort and fashion. The skinny fit makes these pants look put together, but the slouchy crotch area helps make any jogger inspired outfit more casual.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
