If you are from a smaller city or town, no matter where you travel people can always tell. You have close ties with your community and have a strong bond with people from your town along with a sense of pride for your hometown. Coming home to a small town for the holidays brings back a certain nostalgia and familiar warmth, even in the cold winter months. Here are some telltale signs you grew up in a small town.
1. You know everyone
No matter where you go in town you are bound to run into at least five people you know. In fact it's pretty weird if you go somewhere and see nobody you know. But if there isn’t someone you know nearby there’s someone who knows your mom or sister.
2. Everyone knows everything
Even if you move away and lose touch with some people, when you come home for the holidays it is like you never left. Everyone eventually knows everything about everyone. With the closeness of a small community comes the rumors and gossip, it's inevitable.
3. People never know where you’re from
When you move away or go on vacation and people ask where you are from you have completely given up on saying the name of your actual town. You usually just resort to saying the name of the closest big city or area that is well known.
4. Everyone is there for one another when push comes to shove
If there is ever a crisis that occurs for one family, every family in the community will rally together and help out and offer their support. Even though not everyone gets along in town when push comes to shove people are always there for each other in a small town.
5. You’re known as “so & so’s” sibling
Walking into the first day of class usually results in “Oh so you’re John’s younger brother!” or some rendition of that for just about every single student. Not only did your teachers judge you based on who your sibling is but they also called you by their name for half of the year.
6. All of your friends live walking distance away
And if they aren’t walking distance they are less than a five-minute car ride away.
7. No where else feels like home
Even if you hated growing up in a small town you’re reminded how much you actually love and cherish it every time you go back.
