Keep Calm O-Matic

Winter is a time for cold weather, snow, and basically the renewal before the warmer seasons each year. Whether you prefer a chilly, but comfortable fall season or a hot summer day, I have created some signs to truly show you the many personal emotions and affects on a cold season.

1. You hate the idea of being cold already

This is only the start of it. You hate being cold anywhere because you may always be cold or take pleasure in a comfortable atmosphere. The idea of blankets, cuddling, or hanging out by a heater bring joy in your life.

2. Snow does not make you happy. At all.

Others think it is pretty or needed to begin the holiday season, but you see NO purpose for snow. As a kid, when your parents forced you into some snow pants to build a snowman or go sledding in the front yard was the worst time of the year. You hate the idea of getting snow in your face, on your winter gear, or even having to step into it.

3. You cancel your plans more often in the winter

Going out is always a fun idea, but when you check the forecast and see below freezing and snow, it brings tears to your eyes. Whether you wanted to show off a cute outfit, hairstyle, or travel somewhere near to you, the cold is a process because you have to bundle up, suffer from the rosy cheeks and runny noses, and the commitment to go from place to place.

4. The idea of of driving sounds like a near death experienceWhat's worse than driving on Rainbow Road in Mario Kart? Driving in the snow. In real life. More car accidents are common in the winter because of snow and ice; getting ready to drive in the winter is an annoying process itself. I mean who wants to take 15-20 minutes scraping ice and snow off our cars while waiting for the heat to kick in? You consistently avoid other cars because it seems like nobody knows how to drive in a crazy atmosphere. No no no.

5. Picking out an outfit to wear is torture

People always say winter is a great time period for your wardrobe because you get to wear cute sweaters and boots, but the process of getting ready and looking presentable gets put off because you would rather look comfy than cute to save yourself from the cold. However since you're such a winter pessimist, more layers are critical and then it goes from there. It starts off with no cute outfits on top of less makeup and effort to not look like you just woke up from sleeping in a cave.

6. You complain more in general

Wind in your face, snow falling, bad drivers, it all seems terrible. You fail to think about positive about the winter season because, well, it sounds depressing and impossible when you have no sunshine, top down, or smooth roadways.

7. Actually pretending to be positive and holding in all of your hatred for the cold

We get it. Complaining is annoying and always not the key response to things, so we try to put it aside to make the best of things because we want to be happy, right? Of course, so get on your snow pants, meet outside, and build a snowman. Or at least try...

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
