I have often been described as an "old soul". I have always felt beyond my years, and while it was pretty cool as a teen, it seems less cool the older I get. It's not like I live under a rock without access to the internet, and yet sometimes I feel like I actually do. I didn't choose the old at heart life, it chose me. So for all the old souls out there that can relate, here are seven signs you're 20 going on 30!
1. You find it hard to keep up with new music (or you're just uninterested)
I don't know all the words to a single Beyonce hit written after 2010, I can't name a single song off of Kendrick Lamar's newest album, and I honestly wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Lil' Uzi Vert and Lil' Yachty. I played a favorite song of mine in the car with my mom the other day and she said: "I was young when this song came out!"
2. You get excited by things that other people would probably consider lame
I got prescription sunglasses last year and my excitement about them was borderline embarrassing. Some people get excited by new technology and accessories, and here I am getting excited over new mixers and saving money at the grocery store #priorities?
3. Getting a full night of sleep is high on your priorities list
There are a lot of things I love in life, and sleep is definitely in my top three. There's nothing like a memory foam mattress with down pillows calling my name that makes me miss being at home.
4. You have to look up slang on Urban Dictionary more often than you'd care to admit
Woe? Bae? Thot? GOAT? Sus? What does any of this even mean? I mean, I know now, but only because I had to look it up. Thank goodness for UD.
5. Going out is fun, but staying in can be more fun
I love a night out on the town just like anyone else, but there's also something to be appreciated about a night in with pizza and movies or a good face mask and a couple glasses of wine. My idea of "lit" is brunch and a good book.
6. Today's dancing makes you uncomfortable
The thought of twerking and grinding makes you feel all weird. You may dance like an embarrassing parent but at least you have your dignity... sort of?
7. Your idea of a vacation is a little different than your friends
Your friends are spring breaking in Daytona, meanwhile, you're planning a trip to Washington D.C. or the Smokey Mountains. Some people like to base their vacations around partying, while others like to do things and take in beautiful sights or immerse themselves in history. To each their own.
