Ah, the joy of spending your summers as a kid again. Yes, the job of a summer camp counselor does come with its responsibilities, but it sure does bring you back to your childhood.
1. Gimp is life.
Whether you are a new camp counselor or an old one, you definitely know some magic when it comes to gimp. The children are always amazed at how quickly you can start their box or butterfly stitch pattern for them. Although, when they learn a new stitch that you do not know yet, well... they will definitely make fun of you.
2. Two Words. Water. Fights.
I know at my camp, us counselors live for our water fights. Whether it's dumping buckets of water on each other, or getting the kids involved and letting them throw water balloons. Either way, everyone wins!
3. Awkward Tan Lines.
Being out in the sun all day is nice and all, but once camp is over and you realize the only sun you got was there... welcome the awkward tan lines. The super white feet from the sock tan is my personal favorite! But the farmer's tan and the shorts tan are also upon us.
4. Kids Getting Injured In The Weirdest Ways.
I really thought I had seen it all with my girl campers and their injuries, but when someone got a bee in their eye, that was the end game for me.
5. Nicknames.
Around the second or third week of camp, almost everyone has some sort of nickname. We have nicknames from "Olive" to "Cheese" and "Peanut butter." Very cool.
6. The One Camper You Favor.
Everyone has that one camper who impacted them greatly. They would do anything for this camper, while the camper would do anything for the counselor. I know I hope this camper comes back year after year...
7. The Bond You Share With Your Coworkers.
Throughout the summer, you begin to become closer with your fellow counselors and lifeguards. It comes the point where seeing each other five days in a row is not enough so you end up hanging out on the weekends. Everyone is like one big camp family and hope to return to camp the following summer.
