7 Shows To Binge Watch On Netflix
Huffington Post

Everyone loves to binge watch. Binge watching has become an addictive trend, where hundreds of minutes of screen time is absorbed in only a few sittings. Summer is almost over, but there's still time to watch at least one of these amazing shows that are featured on Netflix. Sit back, relax, and get your binge on. You won't regret it.

1. "Freaks and Geeks"

If you're on any form of social media, chances are that you've seen a GIF or two from this show. Set in the 1980s, this glimpse into the lives of teenagers who don't fit in is packed with memorable quotes, facial expressions, and outfits that you'll desperately try to find at Forever 21. Many well-known faces make their debut (James Franco, Seth Rogen, and Busy Phillips, to name a few), which adds to the ever-present warmth you feel throughout your viewing experience. The only downside? Only eighteen episodes were made. "Freaks and Geeks" makes you root for the underdogs while showing the pitfalls of being a misunderstood teen, and leaves you wanting more at the series' end. (1 season on Netflix)

2. "Peaky Blinders"

I'm currently binge-watching this at a friend's recommendation and MY GOD is it great. "Peaky Blinders" follows the story of the real-life Peaky Blinders gang, who were present in Birmingham, England after World War I. Every episode leaves you hanging on for more, and the plot twists leave you slack-jawed and gasping. The show can be pretty dark and violent at points, and the soundtrack (modern tunes including the Arctic Monkeys, Tom Waits, and Jack White) heightens the action with another layer of tenacity. The episodes are an hour long, but not a single minute is wasted. It really is a brilliant show. (3 seasons on Netflix)

3. "American Horror Story"

I've watched season one of AHS more times than I've seen any other show (my cousins and I watch it every Christmas Eve, because that's not bleak or anything). "American Horror Story" plays on common fears, realistic or not, and manages to make you second guess your logic at every turn. The show chooses different eras and locations for each season, including a mental asylum in the 1960s, a freak show in the 1950s, and a hotel, house, and school for witches in modern times. The A-list cameos are almost as frequent as the intense plot twists, which make you re-watch the show with your gained knowledge. While the first few seasons are better than their successors, AHS knows how to push every boundary possible. (4/5 seasons on Netflix)

4. "Grey's Anatomy"

Pretty much every single one of my girl friends has told me to watch Grey's at some point. The show follows the lives of surgeons in Seattle, documenting their friendships, heartbreaks, and many, MANY relationships. While the events of the show get a bit ridiculous (a normal person wouldn't have such crazy things happen to them in the course of several years), the medical cases are often fascinating, and viewers walk away with more information then ever before. The show is packed full of quotable moments, from Meredith's moral wisdom that starts and ends each episode to the love-filled speeches that occur frequently. While Grey's takes a very long time to watch, it really is a lovely way to spend your binge sessions. (12/13 seasons on Netflix)

5. The Walking Dead

My dad, an avid reader of the comics on which the show is based, had me start watching "The Walking Dead", and I finished three seasons in under a week. The series follows a group of survivors as they make their way through the zombie apocalypse, coming to terms with the evils of both the undead and living around them. Due to the setting of the show, anyone and everyone is dispensable, leaving viewers hoping that their favorite characters will last another episode. Watching how the characters transform over time adds to the thrill and heartbreak of the show, and makes you wonder how you would fare in their situations. While the show is pretty violent and gruesome, the underlying themes make you think about our modern world as well as what humans are really capable of. (5/6 seasons on Netflix)

6. "Parks and Recreation"

"Parks and Rec" is by far the most lighthearted of the shows on this list, and is a welcomed relief from the more serious and dark plots out there on Netflix. The series, filmed much like The Office, follows government officials in Pawnee, Indiana, as they try their hardest to be good public servants. Amy Poehler's fierce and optimistic Leslie Knope is one of the best female characters on TV, and should be shown to every young girl as a model of what a powerful woman should be. The rest of the cast shines as well, with hilarious (often ad-libbed) lines from Nick Offerman, Aziz Ansari, Rob Lowe, and the inimitable Chris Pratt. The situations on the show are sometimes ridiculous and always hilarious, and the glimpse into the absurdity of town hall meetings is constantly amusing. Parks and Recreation is pure gold, and leaves you feeling light and joyful at the end of the day. (7 seasons on Netflix)

7. "Breaking Bad"

"Breaking Bad" is, hands down, one of the best shows out there. The genius plot line that almost everyone knows (a high school chemistry teacher with brain cancer begins to cook meth with a former student to pay off his medical bills, and ultimately turns into a major drug kingpin) evolves into a dark, twisted story. I didn't start watching "Breaking Bad" until after the series had reached its completion, which made the need to find out what happens next even more urgent. The character development is masterful, and these transformations awe you, shock you, and break your heart at every turn. While the series can be very violent, unsettling, and crooked at times, there are many moments of cinematic victory, from the deliberate camera angles and lighting to the way a character flinches in a certain way. "Breaking Bad" is truly a work of art, and will make you addicted without meth's nasty side effects.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
