This goes out to all of my friends that say, "I don't pay attention anyway and s/he doesn't take attendance so I'm just gonna skip".
I get it, trust me. I am in the prime of the Sophomore Slumps and November adds an extra layer of that difficulty to get out of bed when it's cold, your walk to class is 10-15 minutes long and you don't feel like it's worth it. Here are 7 reasons why you should still go to class!
1. Each 55 minute class is worth around $90 on average at a public university.
By laying in bed, you're essentially throwing away almost $100. That's almost 100 McChickens, or 20 Starbucks frappes. Spend your money wisely (or your parents money), go to class.
2. You will absorb knowledge through osmosis, it's science.
Believe it or not, even if you go, and sit on your phone the whole time, you may take in at least a little bit more knowledge than you would have if you would have stayed in bed. Obviously it's recommended that you do pay attention, maybe even take some notes, but I have learned a lot more about my classes while simultaneously updating my Pinterest boards.
3. Your professor while notice you more in the November crowd than he did in the September crowd.
There's probably significantly less people regularly coming to class. Who knows, maybe you need a major solid from your prof, but if he hasn't seen you in weeks, why would he want to help you?
4. See other humans. Be social.
It's a healthy part about being an adult and being a human. We, as a human species, require interaction, and laying in bed for days straight neglects this primal necessity. Maybe you will see a friend you haven't seen in a while. Maybe you will run into an old professor or a person you're interested in. If the social aspect is motivating you to get a degree, hey, at least you're doing it.
5. If you try to skip class at a later date for a valid reason, you're going to be less credible for the rest of the semester.
If you miss 5 classes in a row and then say, *cough cough*, "I'm sick", it's pretty much a given that your prof won't believe you, there's no chance.
6. You miss a day, you might as well miss a year.
Especially when you get into upper level courses, missing a single class period could do serious damage to your total understanding for the section of the class. This may not be the case for some classes you're in, but how would you know if you're laying in bed?
7. The first step to success is showing up.
If you can't show up to a class where you sit and do nothing, how is it going to be easy to go to work and accomplish a set list of tasks and duties? C's may get degrees, but they do not get to grad school. Be smart. Go to school. Do college.
