Everyone thinks I’m crazy when I say this, but I HATE winter. Especially now that I go to school in Madison, people are shocked when I share this information with them. “But what about Christmas?” “Don’t you just love snow?” “I just love wearing big chunky sweaters?" Thanks, but no thanks. I would be happy celebrating the holidays on a beach. And for me, snow is equivalent to death. So here is my rationale for why winter needs to just cut the sh*t.
1. The terrible, frigid weather
I don’t care how much you say you love snow and wintertime. No one enjoys being cold. No one enjoys having their ears and nose turn bright red and feeling like they’ve just gotten frost bite. And if you say you enjoy this feeling, you’re lying.
2. Ugly, gross snow
This is arguably the worst part. Snow is SUCH a nuisance. It gets in the way of walking to class, makes driving nearly impossible, and cancels flights. When it starts to pile up and it’s been outside for a while, it looks like brown shit on the side of the road. Sorry, but I just don’t see the appeal.
3. It gets dark outside super early
I love being outdoors. However, from late November to March, this is ruined for me. The sky is pitch black by 5:30. How do people enjoy this? I love the sun and the feeling of the sun on my face. During winter, I feel forced indoors and it turns me into a little bit of a hermit.
4. Cuffing Season
If you don’t know what cuffing season is, it pretty much means that during the wintertime, people don’t like to be single. People want a boyfriend/girlfriend around the holiday times to celebrate with and drink hot chocolate with or whatever it is people in relationships do. This is ridiculous. People shouldn’t be jumping into relationships because of seasonal changes.
5. The clothes
I am someone who just does not look cute in big chunky sweaters and puffy jackets. I hate wearing jeans, and I miss my classic t-shirt and shorts. I hate having to dress for a tundra outsider, and then once I get indoors I am dripping sweat. You can never win with dressing for winter.
6. The crowds on the busses
Now that the temperatures have dropped below zero, the busses on campus are PACKED. There is never a place to sit, and there is bound to be someone breathing down the back of your neck as you stand, gripping onto the pole for dear life. No thanks!
7. I’m still not over summer
I don’t know about you, but I miss summer. No responsibilities, beaches, gorgeous weather, camp, time with friends, no school. How can it NOT be your favorite season? I suppose some of my disdain for winter stems from the fact that is it the complete opposite of summer. Sorry winter, you just can’t compete with summer.
