Did your parents ever nag you when you were younger to read your books for school? I remember my mom used to nag me constantly because I would always procrastinate. The only thing I wanted to do was play pinball on the computer or be outside playing. As I got into high school I still hated reading, but I started to appreciate it more. Then things changed. When I was a junior, I got a head injury and was told not to be on the computer, so all I could do was spend a lot of time either sleeping or reading. When I got into college, I could not thank my mom more for her constant nagging because I learned to appreciate books and now try to avoid my computer if I can. Looking back, I’ve seen how reading books can be beneficial or just better in general. Here are seven reasons why:
1. The feel of the book: you know when you’re really stressed out, you do something that you love. There’s something about the feel of playing a sport, singing a song, walking, etc. You don’t that comforting feeling by staring at your computer.
2. It’s better on your eyes: staring too long at a computer screen, TV, or even phone can be harmful on your eyes.
3.You feel more connected: if you really think about it, holding a book and holding a computer are very different. If you’re anything like me, I feel much more of a connection to the story when I’m holding a book. Plus, you can use your imagination much more and really put yourself in the story.
4. It’s easier: let’s be honest, a book is either lighter or smaller then your laptop.
5. More peaceful: when I’m at the beach or in the park, the idea of reading from my computer just seems bizarre. A book is much more relaxing to have.
6. If you’re a fan of a particular series and you are lucky enough to meet the writer, they can sign your book. That’s a lot more personal.
7. Your hardcover book doesn’t require batteries. Your computer does.
To everyone who has read this, I can’t tell you what to do. Sometimes reading on your computer is more convenient, but there really is something about reading books that makes you feel some sort of feeling. Which, most of the time, is one remarkable feeling. So what are you waiting for? There are many books out there, all you have to do is open one up and use your imagination.
