1. Lifelong friendships
What so many people judge as "buying your friends" is the furthest thing from the fact. Through joining a Greek organization, you get the opportunity to meet so many people, not only in your chapter, but outside as well. You get to connect and build friendships with people in other majors, grades and who live in different places. Your Greek family truly becomes your support system and family for the next few years.
2. Philanthropy
As the old saying goes, "You never truly live until you do something for someone who can never repay you," and through Greek life you get to do this. All Greek organizations require service hours. You get to do things like Relay for Life, dance marathons, philanthropy dinners, and a number of other things, all while having a great time with your friends.
3. Leadership Opportunities
Every chapter gives you room to grow as a person, especially through leadership opportunities. From recruitment to philanthropy, there is a leadership position for everyone. It not only molds you into a better person, but it looking good after college is a plus.
4. Academics
With things such as GPA requirements and study groups every week, it is no wonder that members of Greek life have a higher GPA than non-Greek students.
5. Scholarships
Greek life on every campus offers a large variety of scholarships, every chapter has some and there are even some offered from campus Greek life. With college being so expensive, who doesn't mind that extra help?
6. Socials
Being in Greek life means you are never bored on the weekend. Most weekends there are socials every night. You get to go out and meet new people while having a great time with your brothers/sisters.
7. Formals
Who doesn't like to get dressed up and go to a nice dinner with some of your closest friends? Formals are a great time, whether you have a date or not; you get to win awards, dance and eat great food.
Greek life has been one of the best decisions of my life. No matter who you are, you will find the place for you if you keep your heart and mind open. If nothing else, go through recruitment and get a feel for it; it is always better to try then to wonder "...what if?"
