Going to college can be really nerve wracking; you have to make new friends, take harder courses and move away from home or commute. Getting involved on campus can help you become more comfortable around the college and the people who attend the same classes that you do. If you become involved on campus it can help you get jobs, meet new friends and find out what your interests are.

1. Make new friends.

Getting involved can help you come out of your shell and can help you get to know new people. By joining a club or getting an on campus job, you can surround yourself with people who have the same mindset as you. College can be a place where you can make lifelong friends, and getting involved can be the first step.

2. Building your resume.

Colleges, places of employment and programs love to see how involved you are. Clubs, sports teams, internships and jobs are all perfect ways to get involved. This can help set your resume apart from the rest.

3. Gaining experience.

Getting involved can help you try new things. For example, many people try a new sport during college or join the debate team even though they never played a sport or spoke much in high school.

4. Gaining a sense of belonging.


College campuses for the most part are large and if you are not your own advocate then you can become just another number. Not feeling like you belong can cause you to dread going to school, feel lonely, and cause you to withdraw from your studies. Getting involved can give you a sense of purpose and help you gain a feeling of importance.

5. Networking.

Getting involved can help you get to know more people can the more people you know professionally can help you network and get your name out there. This can help you land important interviews, jobs, and internships.

6. Making money.

Getting involved can also mean getting a job on campus. Most on campus jobs are related to a work study, but if you’re able to get a job on campus it can help you meet new faculty and staff members and put some extra money in your pocket.

7. For fun.

Getting involved can be fun and can be beneficial for your social development. Trying new things cane be fun you just have to put yourself out there and break out of your comfort zone in order for you to experience all that you can.
