7 reasons Georgia rocks

"Just an old sweet song, keeps Georgia on my mind.." Ray Charles

Looking for clean air, soul food, and a laid-back culture? Come live in Georgia with the other 100,000 new residents that flock here every year.

There is no place on earth quite like this little slice of Heaven.

Maybe you live here and maybe you don't, but regardless of where you plant your roots, here are 7 reasons why you should absolutely choose Georgia every time.

1. Soul Food

Whether you visit Mary Mac's Tea Room in the heart of Atlanta or Taylor's Barbeque in the small town of Waynesboro, around every corner in Georgia you are sure to find delicious food. Not just food, but good old fashioned comfort food! There's no other state that understands food like Georgia.

2. Georgia Lakes

Georgia is known for having some of the best lakes around. Just about anyone can tell you about the gorgeous Lake Oconee and Lake Lanier. Most people spend their summer months out on the water and they are awful pretty in the fall too! You'll love it, I swear!

3. Football

Glory, Glory to ole Georgia!! Does it get any better than the University of Georgia Football? Regardless the amount of wins we get or don't get, every day is a great day to be a dawg! In the fall months there isn't a Saturday better spent anywhere else than in Athens with your best red and black.

4. Oceans

The saying "Life is better at the beach" is totally a true statement for Georgia residents! You can be at the coast in Tybee Island Ga, the shores of Hilton Head in South Carolina, or the blue oceans of Florida all in an easy drive. Those northerners can't drive to the beach on a whim, that's for sure.

5. Mountains

Maybe you want to experience snow in the Mountains, don't worry Georgia has that too! One of the reasons Georgia is so great is because you have the beach and the mountains at your doorstep. Not many other states have easy access to both. Lucky you, Georgia!

6. Peaches

There's a reason we are the peach state. Peaches are no doubt God's gift to South Georgia. Picking them is fun and eating them is even better. Peach cobbler is a popular dessert item and for all the right reasons! There's nothing more country than a fresh peach. Homemade peach ice cream on sunburnt lips, that's what country is. There truly ain't nothing sweeter than Georgia peaches.

7. It's acceptable to fry any and everything!

Pickles. Chicken.Hushpuppies. Ravioli. Oreos. Porkchops. Fish. Okra. Snickers. Shrimp. Fried Green Tomatoes. ANYTHING you could possibly dream of is fried in Georgia. Unhealthy? Yes. Does anyone care? No. Fried food is the way to go.

So, if you aren't sold on Georgia yet, then there's really no hope for you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
