Chances are you have at least one scar somewhere on your body, and the older you get the more you will have. Some may just be from something as small as falling off of your bike when you were younger. Some may have more of an interesting story behind them. I have my fair share of scars. Some are small with simple stories but some, not so much. I have one right by my temple from a really bad car accident I was in a couple years back. With it being on my face I am always self conscious of it even though its faded. Then I have two on my left breast from getting tumors removed. Receiving one at the age of only 16 and then the last one at the age of 18, I have really struggled accepting these scars. I am always so concerned with what people may think when they see them. So much to the point where I don't want to wear a bathing suit and chance having people see them. With the help of loved ones as well as sell realization I have learned to not only accept, but to also embrace my scars.
1. They prove you are a warrior.
We all face our own battles in life. You never really know what kind of battles other people are going through. And though that battle may leave you with scars, it is there to be a constant reminder to you that no matter what you went through you made it through and you are in fact a warrior.
2. They are a lesson.
Some of life's greatest lessons leave scars. Though scars may show that you messed up at one point or another- it also shows that you grew and overcame that. We are able to learn and grow from some of our scars. They are a constant reminder to never take life for granted. I wouldn't be the person I am today without my scars.
3. They are all unique with their own stories.
Every scar is unique in its own way. It is unique in the way it looks as well as the story behind it. You can really learn a lot about a person through their scars. It tells not only what they have been through but they were willing to overcome.
4. They are proof of healing.
I think it is honestly such a magical thing that our body is able to heal itself so that we are able to move on with our life. Not only is our body able to heal itself but we are emotionally able to heal from stuff. Rather than hiding our scars it is time to celebrate them.
5. They are now a part of you.
We didn't have a say with the color of our eyes or the health we were born with. The same thing goes for most scars- we really just didn't have a say. But the fact of the matter is that they are a part of us now and they are beautiful just like the rest of us. It is time to accept them and what they stand for.
