The majority of my summer was spent helping fiends defeat slugs.

7 Reasons Why 'Best Fiends' Is The Best Game
Best Fiends

I’m not a gamer, and I do not claim to be one now. When I was younger, I’d watch my brother play video games, but didn’t play myself, and that was OK. I’ve never taken part in the phone game crazes (nope, no "Temple Run" or "Flappy Bird" for me). So when a bunch of the YouTubers I watch started talking about a phone game called "Best Fiends," I was skeptical. The more I heard about it though, the more I was intrigued. I finally gave in and downloaded the game, and thus began my love of "Best Fiends." In honor of October being "Best Fiend’s" birthday month, here are seven reasons why "Best Fiends" is the best game.

1. The fiends are adorable.

The goal of the game is to defeat the slugs, and to help you accomplish this are cute, but powerful, fiends. Throughout the game you rescue the fiends; it’s always exciting to find a new one! The baby fiends are absolutely adorable, and "Best Fiends" allows you to level up your fiends without changing their appearance (if you so desire). The fiends even dance after you successfully complete a level. How cute is that?

2. The game involves strategy.

I would argue that you should not feel guilty playing "Best Fiends" for hours because it actually makes you think critically. Each level builds on the previous one to develop skill, and you have to determine which set of fiends is best to accomplish the goals for each level. You also have to think about what moves are the best to make to fulfill the goals. The game is fun and educational — what more could you want?

3. There are tips.

While you wait for the game to start and after unsuccessfully completing a level (don’t worry, it happens to the best of us) a tip appears on the screen. These tips are actually really helpful. I was struggling with a level, thinking that it was impossible to get past, when I read a tip and followed the advice. My next try, I beat the level. "Best Fiends" wants you to succeed.

4. Your good effort is rewarded.

If you fail a level, that’s alright, because you can pick a reward for trying. And, it’s a surprise to see what’s under the box!

5. The levels are endless.

I seriously don’t think the game will ever end. But that means more for me to play, so I’m OK with having literally hundreds of levels. This also means that you can play the game for hours and hours (as long as you do not run out of energy). Need a study break? Bored? Wishing to avoid life’s responsibilities? "Best Fiends" has you covered.

6. There are mini games.

If there’s a level you just can’t beat and need to take a break from, but you don’t want to stop playing "Best Fiends," or if you want more diamonds or meteormites, there are three mini games. You can spin the Fiend of Fortune, play Lug’s Lootballoon, or play a specific fiend’s quest. Lug’s Lootballoon and fiend quests require you to get to a certain level first, but that’s just more motivation!

7. There are occasionally special quests!

Recently, "Best Fiends" has incorporated special, limited time quests into the game, such as a Scavenger Hunt and a Slug Hunt. "Best Fiends" is always coming up with new and creative ways to make the game more interactive and enjoyable. I can tell that they really care about the game and its players.

And, if you cannot get enough of "Best Fiends" and want more in your life (who doesn’t?) there’s now "Best Fiends Forever!" In this spinoff game, you tap the slugs to defeat them. The same fiends help you along the journey, but they now have different powers. If you’re a fan of "Best Fiends," I definitely recommend checking out "Best Fiends Forever."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
