Every year people try hard to keep New Year’s Resolutions. Commonly, “New year, new me” only lasts so long before it fizzles out. A new year symbolizes a time to change and to make your life worthwhile. The best way to approach these opportunities is to pick a few simple, healthy routines that could lead to a bigger change. Making small, easy changes in your daily life makes the goal less daunting. When a new year comes, the possibilities are endless.

1.Drink more water and green tea.

Water and green tea are great for your body because they keep you hydrated. The many benefits for your body from these drinks include: improved brain functions, burned calories and a boost in your immune system.

2. Read more books.

Reading reduces stress and temporarily gives your mind an escape from reality. By taking time out of your day to read, you will build a bigger vocabulary. This activity also helps you become more empathetic and tranquil, even during the longest days.

3. Stop thinking negative thoughts about yourself and others.

Negative thinking is unpleasant and counterproductive. Switch negative thoughts with positive thoughts. Radiate good vibes; you will attract true friends and positive experiences will come your way. Positive thinking also boosts confidence levels and can even improve mental health. Spread love not hate!

4. Get outside.

Some believe we were made from the Universe, and when we spend time outside, we connect with the Source. Getting outside gives you space to think about the bigger picture and to enjoy your surroundings. More people should appreciate nature and its beauty. Walking, biking, hiking, or even sitting outside can contribute to your overall health. All these activities can lead to a healthier lifestyle.

5. Do not dwell on the past.

Do not be stuck in 2016! 2017 holds numerous opportunities to get the best out of the year. Do not let the past limit you; let it teach you. Look forward to the exciting moments 2017 holds. You left things in the past for a reason; leave them there.

6. Spend more time with family and loved ones.

At the end of the day, loved ones should be your top priority. With so much change occurring in our lives, the people who love us and who we love stay constant and keep us grounded. This time we spend with loved ones spreads love and shows them that they are appreciated.

7. Enjoy the little things.

Today, little moments are underappreciated. These include small gestures that display love or joy which, when connected, make life fuller and more satisfying. Enjoy little moments, such as a smile from a stranger, random acts of kindness, a beautiful sunset or hugs from Mom and Dad, because one day you will look back and realize they were the big things.

Cheers to a happy and healthy New Year!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
