When I was young enough to stand on my dad's feet, I had the amazing opportunity to dance my first father-daughter dance with him. I loved having every ounce of his attention all on me as he sang to me, just one of the many reasons I could call myself a Daddy's girl. Ever since that day I've looked forward to the moment I get to share the very special moment with my Dad at my own wedding. One important detail I can't seem to quite figure out is the song. Every year new songs come out and I think maybe that's the song and then I hear older songs that I would love to use. I tend to lean more towards country songs, which is what this list consists of, although my Dad would be happy with Elvis. Regardless of what song I may end up picking down the road, these songs each have incredible meanings and emotions behind them.
1. I'll be there by Josh Turner.
As if his voice isn't a convincing enough reason, Josh Turner offers up all the possible reasons, silly to serious, of how he will be there as a Dad. Nothing rings more true of what all the things a Dad can be for their child then this song. Check out the lyrics here.
2. Just Fishin' by Trace Adkins
Of course I love this song because it's actually Trace and his daughter fishing in the music video. (Check it out here if you haven't yet!) But I also love that he points out the simplicity and innocence of a child's mind while she's with her dad meanwhile he sees it as so much more. These are the moments and memories she will one day look back at and cherish forever. Because if a bride is using this as her song, shes definitely learned that it wasn't just fishin' and I'm picturing the smile through the tears now.
3. Stealing Cinderella by Chuck Wicks
To me, there's nothing more precious than how a Dad always sees his little girl as just that, his little girl. As a daughter of one of those Dads I know you roll your eyes sometimes at him saying this, don't worry I do too. But just like this song says, your his Cinderella and all he sees in some guy coming to take you away from him. Here's the link to the music video!
4. My Little Girl by Tim McGraw
The first time I heard this song was while watching my favorite movie at the time, Flicka. I know I was already crying from the movie but this song did not help. Nothing beats hearing my Dad call me his little girl and Tim McGraw did an amazing job with this song. The music video has parts of the movie in it, both are a must see!
5. Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle
I can't even deny that I have tears in my eyes every single time I hear this song. Bob Carlisle does an incredible job of expressing the love a dad has for his daughter. The video for this is here.
6. The Girl You Think I Am by Carrie Underwood
I can easily say as of recently this is in my top two. I love that this is the view from the daughters side which I haven't found a lot of. Carrie says it wonderfully, I truly wish I could be the girl my Dad thinks I am. If you haven't heard this song, I highly recommend listening to it or reading the lyrics here. I can't listen to this song without crying every time.
7. I Loved Her First by Heartland
An older song but a personal favorite for me. Heartland brings the emotions perfectly into this song and I haven't seen a dry eye in the room when a daughter and dad dance to this song.
My only advice towards picking a song, whether it's from this list or another one, would be to pick the one that brings you to happy tears. (All of these songs have done that to me, so you can now somewhat understand why I'm in a pickle!) Good luck to all the brides to be picking their special song, I'm thankful I still have plenty of time to choose! PS: NO DAD, THIS IS NOT MY WAY OF SAYING I'M GETTING MARRIED ANYTIME SOON.
