With all of the traumatic events that have been going on lately, it's easy to forget about all of the good in the world. Sometimes you'll forget to say "thank you" for the simple things, so here's a list of all of the people you probably forgot to thank going about your busy day yesterday.
1. Maintenance workers/janitors
I never understood how disgusting bathrooms can really get (shoutout to all of the janitors) until I started living in a dorm with public restrooms. I'll spare the details, but it's disgusting. Denise, I don't know if you'll ever see this, but you're a trooper, and I'm so thankful for you.
2. Bus/shuttle drivers
While their job is relatively easy, I can't even imagine driving the exact same route for an entire shift, being absolutely exhausted, and having to deal with drunk young adults on the weekends is enough to create a headache that will last for the rest of the week. Also, watch this bus driver save this child from running into traffic. A literal hero.
3. The person that held the door for you
While this is assumed to be a common curtesy type of thing, I've seen a ton of people let the door slam in someones face more in the past week than I have my entire life. Rude.
4. Someone who has positively influenced you in a major way
Whether it's a family member or a high school teacher, shoot them a quick text or email just to remind them that they're one of your biggest idols. Everyone needs some reassurance sometimes.
5. A stranger that smiled at you or gave you a compliment
For those of us with serious cases of RBF, a friendly smile from someone I don't know just makes me really happy. Obviously it would be kind of weird to actually say thank you in this situation, so a smile back will suffice.
6. Baggers at the grocery store
I'm sure you say thank you and tell the cashier to have a nice day, but don't forget to slip the employee that bagged your groceries a quick "thanks" on the way out. They appreciate it more than you know.
7. Nurses
12 hour shifts are absolutely brutal, but they get up and go to work almost every day. They give up holidays with their families to take care of yours. Also, they have to deal with some of the dumbest people ever, and can't even do anything about it. Kudos to you, nurses.
