One of my greatest curses and blessings: being a natural blonde. On one hand, I feel my blonde locks are the only color that could possibly fit my personality, but that’s not to say they don’t come with some flaws. Either way, us natural blondes have to stick together because there’s simply some things that only we understand.
1. You can spot fake-blonde from a mile away.
This isn’t a bad thing, it’s just an innate skill you have as a natural blonde. You can also tell who is naturally blonde but has gotten highlights for a little blonde boost, which is completely okay in your book.
2. You pride yourself on not dying your hair.
Since you can spot imposter blondes from a mile away, you probably either were or still are very proud of the fact that you don’t dye your hair. Some people eventually put pride aside and go for the highlights, but I have yet to reach this point. Either way, at some point in your life, you probably loved denying the fact that you dye it.
3. You probably have a close group of fellow blonde friends.
Sure, every blonde needs their brunette, but every blonde also needs their blonde. They say people tend to be friends with people who look like themselves, and natural blondes are no exception. Though I have many beautiful brunette friends, I have two very close blonde friends, also known as the Blondetourage.
4. You’ve probably felt like the “blonde sheep.”
Every so often, you look around and realize you’re the only natural blonde in the room. It can feel a little weird at first, but you can get over your uneasiness and do your best to blend in.
5. You relate to “Legally Blonde” on a spiritual level.
When I first watched “Legally Blonde” around the ripe age of 6, it’s safe to say this movie changed my life and continues to be applicable throughout my life. I could probably recite this movie word for word because of the empowering message it has for blondes everywhere.
6. Your hair gets 50 shades darker in the winter.
Around February, you look in the mirror and feel practically brunette. Any fellow blonde will relate to your struggle, but everyone else will probably look at you like you’re crazy. Nonetheless it’s true—naturally blonde hair looks practically ombre during the winter because of the dark roots that start growing.
7. You do your best to not fit into the blonde stereotype.
Let’s call this the “‘Legally Blonde’ Effect.” You probably feel like you have a certain responsibility to prove the dumb blonde stereotype wrong by taking challenging classes, applying for jobs and internships, and having intellectual conversations by meeting new people. When facing difficulties, always use Elle Woods for inspiration!
