7 Problems of Being the Monica of the Group

Every one of your friends fits one of the "Friends" cast molds. You know right away who is who, but us Monica's gotta stick together. Solidarity, sister!! Amirite?

1) People never acknowledge that you're always right

You honestly give the best advice out of your friend group, and when they don’t follow it, you can’t be blamed for the outcome of the situation. If they would simply follow your advice, their lives would be much less complicated.

2) Making the best of the situations they get you into

You have invariably gotten into some interesting situations, some of them your own doing, others… not so much.

3) Being an amateur psychologist

You are definitely the one that everyone come to for advice. This puts you in the position of having to figure out everyone else’s problems even when you can’t really figure your own out sometimes. Everything from decoding text messages to deciphering their subconscious motives falls under your job description.

4) Putting them before yourself

You tend to put others needs in front of your own if it will make them happy, especially any of those in your close-knit friend group. You give them what they need, even if it comes at your expense.

5) Planning everything

Trying to get all of your friends together for anything more than a casual hangout takes weeks of planning down to the minute. Even then, you have to wrangle them and check in to make sure that everything is going according to plan. This may include having to dress someone in order for them to get ready in time.

6) Keeping track of all kinds of information

When someone needs information about one of your friends, whether it’s a Christmas gift from their significant other, their work times for scheduling their hair appointment, or details on their new boo for their parents, you are the go-to person.

7) Being the emergency contact on EVERYTHING

If something goes wrong, you are the person that gets called. Whether it’s having to get out of a bad date or needing a ride to the doctor, your phone lights up.

Let's face it, they'd be lost without you. Bt at the end of the day, everyone friend group needs a Monica, and you're glad that it's you.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
