Dance Marathon at the University of Florida is one of the most exciting weekends of the year. The massive event features thousands of participants, including dancers, team members, and spectators. If you stop to take a closer look, you will notice all of the small details that make DM at UF special. Here are seven of those low-key observations from Dance Marathon at UF.
DM at UF is actually part “show off your coolest and craziest sock contest.”
The DM dancers who are the most experienced and enthusiastic know that the best way to retain their sanity in the 26.2 hours is by channeling that energy (or lack thereof) through their socks.
There is never a bad time for a milkshake and fries (or sushi, if that’s your style).
One of the biggest perks of being a dancer is having many of your closest friends showering you with toys, piggybacks, and food. There is no such thing as a "random" craving for Taco Bell with a side of Blaze Pizza at 5:30 in the morning.
DM is actually a great time to be productive
DM does a great job of giving dancers the opportunity to get work done in the study room. There's nothing like finishing up Study Edge or a term paper on a late, late, late Saturday night.
The perks of being a four-year dancer are real.
A fresh, clean bathroom is always appreciated. Four-year dancers are treated to this luxury and they are the envy of their fellow dancers.
Tennis balls are incredibly multi-purpose.
It's a toy for yourself, a game to play with friends, or a personal foot massage. The tennis ball is ridiculously nifty and a must-have for any dancer.
Fanny Packs are always in style.
A DM participant's most trusty companion is his or her brightly colored fanny pack. Shame on early-2000s Seventeen and Cosmo for writing off this fun and convenient way of holding all of your most important belongings.
No matter your role, DM is the best 26.2 hours of the year.
Krew Member, dancer, or captain, nothing else compares to the experience that is Dance Marathon at the University of Florida.
