The past four months have flown by. Most college students will agree that their first semester is one to remember. It's a time of transition, but it's also a time where you will learn a lot of things on your own.

1. Put yourself out there

Introduce yourself to the people living on your floor, get to know your RA, go to the Welcome Week events, or join campus activities. Anything is better than just sitting in your dorm room all day!

2. It's OK to be overwhelmed

You've started a new chapter of your life! That can be overwhelming. It's a new place, with new people, and maybe even a completely new state for some. Along with the adjustment, your schedule may be so full that you feel like you don't even have time to breathe, let alone finish that 10-page essay.

3. Take time to de-stress and get re-organized

Get your mind off everything that is stressing you out! Watch some Netflix (but limit yourself), hang out with friends, go to Zumba at the university recreational center, or organize your cluttered desk.

4. There will be late nights in the library

With essays, mid-terms, and finals week, you will eventually be spending long hours in the library. But that's not a bad thing! Studies have shown that students who go to the library frequently have a better overall academic performance. Tip: Make coffee and RedBull your best friends.

5. You won't know everything

Sure, high school may have been a breeze, but college is all about learning new things. It is okay to not completely understand a certain class or topic, but make sure you ask for help and use your campus resources!

6. Nobody really cares what you're doing

Well, some people do. But when you get to college, you'll soon realize that nobody cares who you went to prom with, who you dated, or that your major is undecided. It's a fresh start for everyone! No one wants to drag around old drama.

7. The "Freshman Fifteen" is not a myth

Maybe not exactly 15, but all of those sugary lattes and dollar-a-slice pizzas can add up quick. Make sure to stay active the best that you can. Exercise is a good stress-reliever! (It also wouldn't hurt to eat some veggies from the cafeteria.)

8. Enjoy every moment of it

College isn't going to last forever! Enjoy the late night cram sessions, caffeine headaches, research papers, days of binging Netflix, and nights out with friends. 4 years will fly by fast, so make the best of every day.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
