After six seasons of “Game of Thrones,” I finally decided to download HBOGO and watch it while trying to avoid any and all spoiler alerts. I was amazed that I finished all six seasons in just about two-and-a-half weeks and I usually only watched at night before going to sleep. I did have a couple of days where I really binge watched and spent almost the whole day watching. Here is what I learned by watching the series in just a few weeks.
1. It is extremely difficult to ignore spoilers
For some reason, every time I went on any media app, there was some new article about “Game of Thrones” that contained a spoiler or theory about how the characters are tied together. It took everything in me not to check out these articles and I was glad to have ignored them; it let me enjoy the show the way everyone who watched it in order from the start would have.
2. Don’t get emotionally connected
Even within the first few episodes, I got this feeling to be wary of emotional connections with certain characters. No matter how much you love the character, be cautious because they could be dead in the next episode and then you are emotionally destroyed.
3. It is OK to love Jon Snow
No matter how cliché it is, Jon Snow is a great character and is definitely easy on the eyes. My aunt had asked me whom I thought was more attractive, Jon Snow or Robb Stark? It was definitely a hard question but I just love Jon Snow, even if he can’t say the word battle correctly.
4. Tyrion Lannister is the only Lannister anyone should like
Not only is he comical, but he is also logical about his choices. And compared to his brother and sister, he is definitely the best.
5. The Direwolves are the best characters overall
My three favorite characters go in this order: the Direwolves; Daenerys Targaryen; Jon Snow. It is so sad whenever any of the Direwolves are killed, they are basically the Starks' puppies.
6. Joffrey is as annoying as you think
I don’t know if it is his screechy voice or the fact that he’s just an awful person, but I was so satisfied when *spoiler* he died. He didn’t deserve to be king and he was a huge mama’s boy.
7. Daenerys is fabulous
Her feminist perspective and compassion for others makes her the best female character; and for goodness sake, she is the mother of dragons! How cool do you have to be to be the mother of freaking dragons? Plus the way she stands up to her awful brother early on is great, he was about as annoying as Joffrey.
If you haven’t seen “Game of Thrones” or have been considering watching it, I highly recommend it. It is a great mix of drama, sci-fi and action. By the time an episode is over, you don’t even realize that an hour has passed. Winter is Coming.
