7 Things You Learn On Move-In Day

1. Your Roommates Are Either Your Best Friends Or Not

Once you meet your roomies for the first time, you will figure out all of the ins and outs of their lifestyle and how it is going to mush together with yours. It is such an exciting moment for all of you! Unless it's not. I am fortunate enough to have the best roommates a girl could ask for, but not everybody gets that lucky.

2. First Impressions Are Key

Once you get settled into your new home for the year and you have wiped the tears away from your eyes from the high family emotions, you are going to want to go out and meet people. Whether it be your next door neighbors or the entire floor, first impressions are always key. My best advice, just be yourself. That is how you get out of the high school cliche "clique" life and into a mature environment. Making friends in college is so different from high school, so be friendly and have a great time with everyone.

3. The Distance It Will Take You To Walk From Your Apartment/Dorm To Campus

Something you will find out real quick is the distance it is going to take you to walk to campus. Because let's just be real, paying for a parking pass is just extra cash that no college student wants to give up. If walking is not your thing though, get a bus schedule.

p.s. Get a bus schedule.

4. Everyone Comes From Different Backgrounds

College is such a diverse community of people and it is the best! You get to meet people from all over the world. People from big cities, the ones from small towns in the middle of nowhere (that's me). The types of culture that you get to experience in college is such a lucky thing, considering you do not even need to leave the comfort of your campus.

5. You Have A Million Papers To Turn In By The Next Day

Before you can move into your building, you must check-in and get all of the information needed for that specific room. That requires filling out a ton of papers regarding security deposit, damages, regulations, etc. But the catch is that you have to turn almost most of them in by what seems to be the next day.

6. Everyone Is Going To Want Your Snapchat (So Have A Snapchat)

Of course you are going to exchange social media with your roommates, but you are also going to do that with everyone you meet. Social media is big everywhere, but snapchat is real big in college. Everyone wants to know what is happening on campus and what is going on with everyone they meet.

7. You Are Going To Have A Great Time In College

If move-in day is any recollection of what your year is going to be like, it will be great. You are not the only student starting at a new place so do not hold back. Put yourself out there, meet new people each day, and have fun.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
