The instantaneous plight back to childhood that your achey, out-of-shape adult body feels on a fresh, snowy morning is as warm and refreshing as the hot cocoa you'll be indulging in soon enough. The joy of a snow day was unbeatable, from the silly traditions like flushing ice cubes down the toilet to getting that fateful call from the school district's superintendent.
I've spent my entire life on the east coast which means that snow days are rarer and as hard to come by as Chris Christie supporters. So when the snow plows don't make it out until ten A.M. because our taxpayer money is going towards painting blue lines between the road markers, take some of the ideas below to make your snow day one for the books. Stay warm out there and don't risk your life to see "Star Wars".
1. Wine. Lots of wine.
I feel like this one is a given.
2. Make your house smell like an L.L. Bean catalog and try making some of these delicious baked goods.
Some of my personal favorite recipes are these insanely sweet and easy Raspberry Tarts, this twist on the Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie (hint: just add sea salt), and these fresh and indulgent Lemon Custard Tarts. I have a slight thing for fruit tarts, but how could you not?
Or, get in the "Rogue One" spirit with these adorable Wookie cookies!
3. Have a movie marathon!
To watch the entirety of "Lord of the Rings" takes 9 hours and 18 minutes.
To watch the entirety of the "Harry Potter" series takes 19 hours and 39 minutes.
To watch the entirety of the "X-Men" takes 13 hours and 58 minutes. Let's round that to 14 hours, shall we?
To watch the entirety of the "Jurassic Park" trilogy takes only 5 hours and 48 minutes, and I'll argue that if you're not watching all three in one sitting already you might have to re-evaluate your life.
4. Get some work done you've been putting off.
Yeah, I'm looking at you, you dirty, dirty resume. Let's get you cleaned up.
5. Try out some of these savory recipes for ultimate comfort.
There's nothing like a home cooked meal on a blistering cold day. Thank goodness for moms and chili. Try this hearty chili or this creamy mac and cheese to warm up your chilly body from your head to your toes.
6. Or entertain yourself with a DIY craft!
Like this cozy homemade dog bed that is everything. Or perhaps this ultra quaint gingerbread house that makes building it optional but eating the parts absolutely necessary.
7. Take some time to organize your closet.
Time to make room for all of those new holiday clothes after too long of a year of outfit-repeating.
