Have You Found Yours?

7 Important Reasons Why Finding A College Church Is Important
Brianna Spence

During your college days and experiences, it is important to find a church in your college town. And you might be thinking, “I have a home church. It’s fine, that’s enough.” But unless you are going to go home each and every single weekend (which I don’t recommend. Even as a freshman.), you are going to have a lot of lost time that can be spent worshipping our God. In all honesty, I do not know where I’d be without my college town church.

My College Church has:

1. Been there for me ALWAYS.

They have always been there supporting me by prayer and have helped me get through some times where otherwise I would have alone. They have encouraged me, been there when I just need a hug, they have been there with laughs, and memories that I hold onto. And they have been there to call me out when I need it.

2. Helped introduce me to MORE people than I can count.

They have introduced me to literally more people than I can count (I am seriously not kidding). Because of my college church, I have a mentor and many different friends. I am always excited to see who else I can meet because of them.

3. Given me VOLUNTEER Opportunities.

College is a time where volunteering just seems easier. It gives us a chance to give back to our communities. It’s given me a chance to help the kiddos (and trust me, the kiddos really do love the college students).

4. Introduced me to a CAMPUS organization.

Being a part of a campus organization helps introduce you to similar minded people. And it also gets you involved, which can help get your parents to quit calling you telling you that you need to get involved. It’s a win win situation no matter how you look at it.

5. HELPED me find a Bible study.

I had never done a Bible study before college. Not even in my home church growing up. Now, I’m not only in one Bible study, but two! I attend one through my church family and one through my campus organization. And I’ve never felt better. It’s given me friends, a prayer team, and people to hold me accountable.

6. Gotten me INVOLVED.

It has gotten me involved in church and on campus. Both are something important. Since finding my college church, I am now a Sunday school volunteer, a VBS craft helper, a barista, and an organization officer.

7. Helped me DISCOVER a FAMILY!

I have found the people who are a text away when I’m struggling. I have found a group of people to celebrate the holidays with when I can’t go home to celebrate with my own family. I have found people who want to celebrate my birthday with me and make it bigger than I can imagine. I have found people who are willing to pray for me, and encourage me. I have found people that ultimately care about the Gospel and God's wonderful people!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
