Traditions can start without a thought. The repetition of bringing your friends ice cream on half-birthdays, or candy before a job interview, can quickly turn into a treasured tradition. A way that friends can connect throughout time despite any distance.

These simple acts of love can renew an old relationship, stand the test of time, and bring you and your bestie closer!

Here are 7 ideas to start you off.

1. Annual beach trip!

Step one: pick a beach. Step two: go every year! The beauty of the beach trip is simple; you get to spend the day soaking up the sun and relaxing with your best friends!

2. Playlists for every year.

Fire up Spotify! Throughout the year, add all your current favorite songs. Whether it’s what they’re playing on the radio, or your go-to dance song with your girls, document it! Start a new playlist every year. After a few years, you’ll look back at the playlist and remember all the memories that those songs were the soundtrack for.

3. Pinterest baking party.

There’s nothing better than activities that you can eat, so a baking party is a great tradition to start! Have everyone pin ideas leading up to the event, and when the time comes, try your best to replicate the unattainable beauty of Pinterest desserts. Whether the results are laughable or photo-worthy, they’ll certainly be tasty either way!

4. Friendsgiving

Even if you can’t cook like Monica, or if you hate Thanksgiving like Chandler, Friendsgiving is an awesome way to be grateful for your friends in the Holiday season. Bonuses: football games and DELICIOUS food.

5."Give Me 5”

Especially fabulous for long-distance friends, this tradition has no season or time frame, but is ideal for a quick catch up when life gets busy. Text your friend “Give me 5” and they’ll reply with the top 5 things going on in their life. Whether they tell you about a job promotion, or a life-changing slice of pizza, this is a great way to stay connected from afar.

6. Volunteering together.

Participating in community service is a great way to give back while spending time with your friends! You can make this tradition something special for around the holidays, or even a monthly trip at a food pantry or animal shelter.

7. Recreating the same picture.

A classic tradition - pick a time and place to take the same picture each year. Make sure that everyone is standing in the same order, same pose, and for added fun, recreate your facial expressions from years past!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
