Since you were a freshman, you've probably heard someone say to you, "Take it easy! Take a few credits at a time! There's no rush!" Sometimes, people take these words a little too close to heart and find themselves forced to take 18+ credits during their senior year. On the other hand, some students find that taking 18+ credits is the best way to finish school in a timely manner. Regardless of your reasoning for taking a lot of credits, you are probably that person on campus who takes immense pleasure in crossing out the dates in your planner and is willing the semester to be over. Here are a few things that everyone taking too many credits knows to be true.
1. You have no time to yourself

Just when you think you have a minute to relax and destress, you take a look at the clock and realize it’s midnight and you need to get sleep to handle your incredibly busy schedule the next day.
2. You have no time for complaints
Despite being an academic warrior and taking on too many credits, you cannot fathom to hear people, who are taking less credits than you, complain about their workload. As they complain, you are hoping your eyes don’t automatically start rolling as you have to hold back the temptation to shout, “YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LUCKY YOU HAVE IT!” In a schedule jam-packed with schoolwork, you have no room for negativity … besides your own.
3. You miss out on some fun happenings
You know those holidays like St. Patrick’s Day where college students skip their classes and treat the day like a little vacation? Yeah, you don’t have that luxury. While your friends may be able to skip their one class of the day, you have to treat the day like its any other and attend all your classes. Let’s face it, it’s usually us students, with extremely large workloads, that have professors who keep the work coming, even on unofficial days off.
4. Getting ready for class is not an option

Because of your incredibly busy schedule, looking presentable for class has been knocked down a few hundred slots on your list of priorities. It's not that you don't want to look good for class, you just can't fathom finding the time to make it happen. Yes, you feel a little envy when you see the person in full-blown club makeup and a cute outfit but you can't ignore the fact that your worn out sweatshirt is extremely comfortable and you don't have to worry about staining it with your tears #Win.
5. The work keeps coming![]()
Once you’ve finished one major assignment, you have a feeling of pure relief … until you remember you have another five assignments due throughout the week. You understand the fact that you won’t really remember what it feels like to feel relieved until you are walking out of your last final of the semester.
6. Your coffee consumption is out of control
You know constant coffee consumption isn’t the best idea, but you cannot give up your fuel. Even when you have no desire to drink coffee, you find yourself throwing a K-cup in the Keurig because you know there’s a lot of work that needs to be done in a limited amount of time.
7. You don’t have an answer to the question: “How do you do it?"
You have a love/hate relationship with the question because on the one hand, it makes you feel like a superhero and on the other hand, you begin to question, “Wait, how do I do it?!” Either way, your answer to the question is always a simple, “I don’t even know.”
8. You feel proud
Despite feeling as if you are seconds away from drowning in schoolwork, you are proud of your work ethic. You want to roll your eyes when someone says, “People in college don’t know how lucky they have it!” because you know you that you are putting in plenty of hours to better yourself and continue your education.
