This article is another installment of my information and tips for 7 Day’s To Die’s Alpha 16 update. This article will be covering the electrical element. Alpha 16 added a full-fledged electricity system to the game. Including lights, switches, generators, a variety of electronic traps, motion sensor, timers, speaker, and defense turrets.
In order to be able to make electrical products, you will need to acquire certain perks. The Science skill perk is the main perk for allowing you be able to make electronics. There are several other perks under the broader science category of skill perks, which allow you to make certain electronic objects. The Do it Yourself perks allow you to be able to craft certain materials which are commonly required to make electronic materials, such as electronic parts and electronic components. This perk is not immediately needed, as you can scavenge mechanical parts, electronic parts, plastic, and electronic components from various objects in the game. Though the materials it allows you to make often require duct tape. So if you want to make them you’ll want to scavenge and/or craft a lot of duct tape.
When it comes to acquiring the materials needed to make electronic items, they can be scavenged or crafted with the right knowledge and effort. Electronic items often require mechanical parts, electronic parts, and/or electronic components to make them. As said these can be crafted once you acquire certain perks, but you can also scavenge them. They can be acquired by using a wrench to take apart air conditioners, cars, shopping carts, televisions, and other electronic items in the world. Electronic items also tend to involve using some forged iron or forged steel, which can be manufactured in the forge. The Trader is also a good source for purchasing the materials needed to make electronic items or to purchase the items themselves.
Once you have the ability to make electronic items, there then comes the task of setting them up. The first step is the generators. The generators are the source of power which allows the electronics to work. There are three types of generators; the generator bank, the battery bank, and the solar bank. Each generator contains six slots to place the item they need to run (minimum 1 to run). The generator bank needs engines, the battery bank needs batteries, and the solar bank needs solar cells. The number and quality of those items determine how many watts of energy the generators can produce, and the watts of energy produced determine how much stuff the generator can power. Each electrical object in an electrical system uses a certain amount of watts, depending on what it is. The generator banks also require fuel to power them.
Once you have your generator and the things you are powering down, you will need wiring to connect the power to them. You will need the wiring tool to place wire. To place wire, you right click on the 1st electrical object, then go over to the 2nd electrical object, and right click and it to finish placing the connect. You can left click to cut wire connections. Now it important to remember that wires have a direction of flow. The first object you draw the wire from is the spot the wire is drawing the energy from, and second object you finish the wire at is the object that energy is going into. Thus when setting up an electric network, you should start at the generator and work outwards. Now you do not have to connect everything directly to the generator. As long as there is a chain of electrical flow through a series of objects that connects to the generator, the object will get power. Now there is a limit to how far wire can go, but you can use connections to objects, such as an electric wire relay, to create a new point and extend your electrical network farther. Objects such as switches, motion sensors, and pressure plates are used to control the flow of electricity to certain things, in order to turn on or off certain things without turning the entire electric network on or off at the generator.
With these things covered, this is it for this installment of information and tips for 7 Days to Die Alpha 16.
