I'm a fairly new concert attendee, but there are some things across the board that are acceptable and not acceptable while attending a concert.
1. No cutting/pushing in general admission.
As they say, "Don't cut unless you want to get cut." But for real — if you think you can show up right when the concert starts and push to the front, cutting in front of all of the people who have been standing there for three to five hours to save their spot... you will get cussed at, nudged, and maybe even punched. Just don't do it. You get the spot that you get.
2. Get to know those you're standing next to.
The people around you will become your concert fam. You're there for them through thick and thin, from every person trying to take your spot to the spilled beer on your new shoes. You go through a lot with these random strangers, so protect them and their friends from line cutters and other annoying people.
3. Glue your ticket to your body.
Some venues will give you a wristband but it will mean absolutely nothing if you don't have your ticket on you. Keep your ticket on you at all times, whether it's in your pocket, shoe or bra. You never want to be caught without it.
4. Charge your phone.
One of the most important parts of going to a concert is taking pictures to prove that you actually went to said concert. DO NOT forget to charge your phone. At all costs, avoid being the one person in the crowd who can't take photos of the band/singer/musician and who can't join in on the flashlight waving song.
5. Hydrate.
Especially if you're in general admission, make sure you drink a lot of water/fluids about two hours before the concert, and then make sure you pee before you find your spot. You don't want to hold your pee (uncomfortable) throughout the entire night and you don't want to risk losing your precious spot that you've staked out at for the past five hours. Also, have an emergency bottle of water, just in case your throat dries out from singing off-key.
6. Download SafeTrek.
SafeTrek is an app that helps to feel safe — no matter what situation you're in. What you do: hold down the button while you're walking to your car or public transportation. If something dangerous happens, simply let go and the app will call 911 for you. If you get to your desired destination safely, let go of the button and type in your passcode within 10 seconds to tell the app that you're safe. This app eases fears while walking back to your car late at night after a concert, or in any other nerve-racking situation.
7. Have fun but be respectful.
All in all, when you attend a concert, you've most likely spent quite a bit of money and want to enjoy what you've paid for. Be respectful of others, because they've spent time and money to have fun too.
If everyone follows these simple concert ettiquite tips, the concert world would be a much better place.
