Many celebrities participate in other ventures that differ from their main mantra. As a business major, I was intrigued to learn of celebrities who shared a similar major. Here is what I found.
1. Wanda Sykes
Before getting her big break opening for Chris Rock, Wanda attended Hampton University in Virginia, where she earned a degree in marketing. She then went on to work as a contracting specialist for the National Security Agency before performing stand-up comedy.
2. Kevin Costner
Kevin attended the University of California at Fullerton where he obtained his BA in marketing and finance. During his last year in business school, he started taking acting lessons and eventually met actor Richard Burton on an airplane. From there, he went on to star in many blockbuster films such as The Bodyguard, Man of Steel, and Dance With Wolves.
3. Cate Blanchett
Prior to moving to the United States in pursuit of an acting career, Cate studied at the University of Melbourne, where she earned degrees in both fine arts and economics. Now she is a multi-award winning actress who has starred in more than fifty films and twenty stage productions.
4. Shaquille O’Neal
Although he is most famous for his basketball career, Shaq received an online MBA through the University of Phoenix and is an active investor. He has invested in companies including General Electric, Apple, and Pepsico, among others. He also owns a Krispy Kreme location in Atlanta. Shaq’s other ventures include being on the advisory board for a social video startup company, assisting Orlando homeowners facing foreclosure, as well as developing projects in his hometown of Newark, NJ.
5. Dr. Oz
While a student at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Oz received his M.D. as well as an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. Although the medical aspect of healthcare is important to him, the business element is equally as important.
6. Arnold Schwarzenegger
At the beginning of his career as a celebrity, Arnold Schwarzenegger was in the process of receiving a degree in international business and international economics from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. However, after his career took off, he went through an extended degree program and completed most of his studies at UCLA and Santa Monica College. The former governor of CA also minored in business administration and fitness marketing.
7. George W Bush
The 43rd President of the United States was the first to have an MBA. He graduated from Harvard University in 1975.
Although there are many other celebrity business majors, these may be some of the most surprising.
