I was born, raised and I live in Manhattan. Thus, I like to think I know everything there is to know about this island, especially the Lower East Side, Midtown Manhattan and the Upper East Side. I live in lower Manhattan, work in Midtown and I went to school in the zip code 10065. Food can be expensive, sightseeing can be expensive, and don't even get me started with the rent. There really is nothing cheap. Except these seven things.
1. Cart food!
It is so much cheaper than food from a convenient deli.
2. Walk the Williamsburg Bridge.
You get a great view, great form of exercise and out of the hundred times that I have gone, it has never been crowded.
3. Get lost in Central Park.
Or go on a boat ride with a friend. It is inexpensive to rent one for an hour and is extremely fun.
4. Wait to see the sunset.
It is a beautiful view. Totally worth the wait.
5. Take a tour of the United Nations.
It is even more beautiful on the other side.
6. Visit and support the Housing Works Bookstore Cafe.
Hot and cold beverages, many places to sit, and books. What more can you ask for? It is at 126 Crosby St, New York, NY 10012.
7. Look for hidden treasures.
This is a picture I took of my friends wondering around in Central Park.
