We've only been in winter for a month and I'm already over it. I will never understand people who prefer winter blizzards over the warm sunshine and the beach. Yes, I'm well aware that it is only January and I am already talking about summer. Judge me if you want to, but I know I'm not the only person who feels like this. Lately, I've been finding myself daydreaming of warm weather and lounging on the beach. Spring break is on the horizon, so us college students can't help but long for winter to be over.
With that being said, I've come up with the perfect solution. Just because it's disgusting outside doesn't mean we can't take this time to prepare ourselves for the summer. We can use this time of hibernation to get ready for the better days that are ahead of us.
1. Create/Listen to a summer playlist.
Nothing gets me ready for summer more than a good playlist. From throwback Shaggy to Nico & Vinz to Rihanna to Kendrick Lamar, you'll find yourself in the summer state of mind.
2. Get into the best shape of your life.
Summer bodies are made in the wintertime. Take this time to eat healthy and work out. Yes, we may not feel like working out when there's a foot of snow on the ground, but we'll be thanking ourselves when June rolls around. (I'm so guilty of creating fitness and diet plans and not sticking to them, so I am going to try and take my own advice on this one.)
3. Declutter your life and donate.
I am notorious for accumulating clothes and just letting them sit in my closet for years. When you start to give things away, you start making room for new stuff. Now is the time to start seeing what you need and what you don't need.
4. Shop.
It's never a bad idea to treat yourself every now and then. Nothing gets me more hype for warm weather than picking out clothes that I'll be able to wear. Now is the time to start picking out a swimsuit (while they still have a large selection) along with the basic summer essentials. There's a reason why this came after step three. Make sure you go through what you have first!
5. Plan a trip somewhere warm.
This kind of ties everything together. If you know you're going somewhere warm, it's probably going to give you more motivation to eat healthy, work out, and shop for new pieces. If you have something to look forward to, it will make these brutal winter months all the more bearable.
6. Update your skincare routine.
Everyone is different, but the majority of us suffer from having extremely dry skin in the winter months. Use this time to make sure you're taking care of your skin and you are moisturizing! Again, you'll thank yourself later in the summer, when you're wearing shorts and sandals.
Wishing you warm thoughts and sunnier days!
