Ahh, Thanksgiving. A holiday favorite for many. The food, family, and fun festive traditions can also be quite stressful and overwhelming. Hopefully these tips will help calm your nerves.
1. Portion control.It is especially important to take small portion sizes on Thanksgiving because everybody has seconds, maybe even thirds. So, since you’re probably going to be having fifths, might as well stay on the side of caution and start off small.2. Hydrate well.
Make sure your pee is more of a clear to lemonade color instead of a yellow to apple juice color before you divulge into your meal. You might keep eating and eating and not realize that you are actually just thirsty. Thirst often gets mistaken as hunger.3. Laugh with that annoying family member that you hate.
We all have one, that one obnoxious family member that nobody can stand. You only have to see them a few times a year, so you might as well make a memory of it. The best way to avoid them would be to help with the cooking, set up, and cleaning so that you’re too busy to talk to anyone annoying. If you can’t handle that, pretending you are super into football is always an easy escape. For some reason it is acceptable to be on your phone or watching TV during Thanksgiving, just because of the sports events.4. Dress accordingly.
Ladies, this means leggings and a sweater dress and gents, a pair of slacks that has some wiggle room to loosen your belt a couple of notches. That food baby needs some room. If you want to be calm, comfortable and feeling Thankfully fine, make sure your outfit has a stretch factor.5. Plan a comfy lazy way to enjoy the food coma afterwards.
Whether that be drinking tea by the fire, or taking a nap in front of the television, you need to let your body digest in peace. Of course, help wash the dishes and whatnot while you’re still in a sugar high from all the pie, but once you feel that crash, it’s nice to have a place and people to enjoy that coma with.6. Don’t set an alarm unless you are trying to go Black Friday shopping.
Make sure to keep a food diary the next day to track how many slices of pie you ate at breakfast, lunch and dinner, you know, to at least hold yourself accountable.
I’ll keep you updated on how to cleanse and rejuvenate after you appreciate the holidays. Thank you universe, we are so blessed! Enjoy!
