Every day we take a million things for granted. We don't realize the importance a day or moment in time holds until it is too late. We pass through the day, not acknowledging the greatness it holds. So, here are a few moments in life where people need to stop and smell the roses.
1. In the middle of an argument.
The next time you get in a fight with your mom, dad, brother, sister, boyfriend or girlfriend — or anyone for that matter — stop. Take a moment, stop what you're saying or doing and think. Is this fight really worth it? Am I at fault for this? What could I, myself, do to prevent these sort of fights. One day you're going to wish you didn't say something so mean or realize maybe you should not have done something the way you did. Regrets are hard to live with; the only cure is to try and prevent them.
2. When taking a photo.
I love taking pictures and capturing a moment in a photograph. They're the best types of memories and keepsakes. However, sometimes people don't put the camera or phone down and appreciate the moment behind the camera. Put it down! Stop trying to record the moment and live it. Photos will come naturally in a moment. Appreciate them, but don't hide behind the lens. Live the moment through.
3. When talking about others.
I know it's honestly like second nature to talk about others anymore. Gossiping has become a huge part of pop culture. No one thinks twice about what they're saying to people anymore. They don't even realize that they're being mean or could potentially be putting someone down. They just do. Stop. Stop what you're about to say and think. Think about if what you're saying could get back to that person. Think about how it could affect them and their mentality. Don't do anything that could hurt someone. Be careful and choose your words wisely. Don't jump the gun and freak out. Think about the situation; it could really be nothing to be upset about.
4. When you're about to splurge.
Yes, think about that fancy purse you're about to spend $200 on. Is it really that cute? Is it gonna be in style next year, or are you going to want another purse by then. Also, would it be versatile with all your outfits. Maybe I'm just super cheap and don't wanna buy something expensive that is only cute for the time being when I can spend my money on something that will last a while and still go decently with the style that's in.
5. When you're about to rant on social media.
This is the hardest thing to do. I am guilty of this. I do believe ranting is healthy and getting things off your chest is good for you. However, depending on your situation or problem at hand, it's best to stop and think, "Do I really need my 683 Facebook friends to know about this?" I do understand that they are your property, and you have a right to post whatever you want. I get that. However, in the moment you might not realize something you're posting isn't really anyone else's business but your own. Think about it is all I'm saying.
6. And finally, when you feel unworthy or unhappy with yourself.
People have many reasons they are not happy with themselves. It could be a health issue or could be something you have done. Nonetheless, you need to know your worth. Whether you're upset about something you know you did wrong or something you can't control. Stop and think. It may be completely out of your hands. Something you can't do anything about. However, these conflicts are just a part of life. Also, if it was something you did, you have the power to learn and grow from your bad decisions. It's never too late to change or make up for something. I know these are easier said than done, believe me, I know. Still, be happy with yourself and do what you know you can do to change the things you're unhappy with.
So, I hope that these have been an enlightenment for those who needed it. I hope more people take these moments and stop and smell the roses like I've advised. Living with this thought in the back of your mind will help to make life easier, I believe; I know it has for me. Stop and appreciate the wonderful, little things life has to offer us.
