Elkhart, Indiana isn't necessarily an armpit...but it isn't necessarily the prettiest sight either. We have a high crime rate, we were in a recession and Obama had to come give us a "pep talk" (at my high school), and we have really bad winters (every couple of years). It isn't always the best, but regardless, we still make the most of it.
Here are six things you're probably used to hearing if you're from Elkhart, Indiana:
1. "With the windchill it's -10° outside? Oh that's normal".
We're just really used to snow/icy roads/white-out conditions, okay?
2. "Haci chips and salsa sounds soo good right now."
...and a mudslide.
3. "What do you want to do?" "I don't know." "Okay let's go to U.P. mall."
Because the mall is the most interesting thing... and it's not even in Elkhart. It's in Mishawaka...25-30 minutes away.
4. "I'm going to be late because of a stupid train!"
When a five minute drive ends up taking 20 minutes instead...
5. "The new Martin's Super Market is lit."
Because only in Elkhart will teenagers be excited over a new grocery store...especially because it has a Starbucks inside.
6. "I only go to Concord Mall for Enzo's."
And when Concord Mall mentioned renovating, all anyone was concerned about was whether Enzo's was going to stay or not.
