A lot of times, when we get depressed or anxious, we feel stuck. Here are some things you can do to cope:
1. Listen to music.
We all have certain music that we like to listen to. When I feel stuck I look up other people's playlists on Tumblr, Buzzfeed, and Google. Looking up new music will not only distract you and your mind from whatever is going on in your life, but you will also be possibly getting into some new music and finding some new faves. Normally when you're depressed, you go to sad music, so try the opposite and look up pump up songs.
2. Go online window shopping.
Online window shopping is something I do quite often. Not only does it de-stress, but if you end up finding something you really like, you can make a plan to work toward that goal to order it. Or if you have the money right then, you could order it. Some good apps to do it with are Wish, Amazon, and even Instagram. Making goals like that is essential to overcoming bouts of depression. You may even find a perfect present for someone close to you!
3. Visit the library.
Sometimes when you're depressed or over stressed, a silent or semi quiet environment can give your brain time to cool down and reset. You can plug in headphones and just sit and relax, or you can work on homework. You could even browse around and possibly find a book to read. Books can be such a great coping mechanism and I highly recommend them. Not only do they strengthen your brain and reading stamina, but they also give you a sweet escape into another world.
4. Read some articles.
Something I do frequently is look up articles. They could be about something I want to learn about or they could focus on current events. Some articles I frequently explore are about global warming and possible ways to help. Other articles you might look up could be about mental health and ways to help yourself.
5. Research and practice coping methods.
Looking up coping methods not only distracts you right then and there, but it could also help you in the long run. Learning new methods can help you to figure out what will help you next time, and what will work in certain situations and what won't. Some methods won't suit you or help, and that's okay. There are plenty of ways to cope out there for everyone.
6. Try some DIY activities.
Having a bookmark of DIY activities and ingredients needed is so beneficial. Having them at hand when you're having a bad day could help. On my computer I have around ten bookmarked at any given time. One I definitely recommend is a snow globe bottle to calm anxiety. Even small activities like a new pillow case design or tye-dying a t-shirt are all activities that can soothe the mind.
These are all things that can help me, and I hope they help you too!
