1. Paris is finally happy
Throughout Gilmore Girls’ seven-season run, the fiercely ambitious Paris Geller was chronically dissatisfied. Though she grew up with distant and unsupportive parents, struggled to develop meaningful relationships, and constantly found herself usurped by her best friend/bitter rival, Rory, Paris remained unabashedly driven and competitive. Paris’ failures often unfairly served as a mode of character development for Rory, but I hope that in the revival Paris achieves everything she worked so hard for during her education. If anyone deserves happiness and success, it’s Paris Geller.
2. Paul Anka is still alive and kicking
Lorelai adopted this shaggy pooch to fill a gaping, Rory-shaped void during the infamous Yale hiatus of season 5. The endearingly quirky pup, in all of his shoe carrying, pea fearing, hamburger consuming glory was such an adorable addition to the Gilmore family that he quickly became a fan favorite. Though he took a backseat toward the conclusion of the show’s run, I’m sure all of us can agree that a Paul Anka reprisal would be a much appreciated addition to A Year in the Life.
3. Lane is following her passion
Lane Kim was easily the coolest character on Gilmore Girls. She was a small town rebel, covertly listening to rock music, forming and pioneering a successful band with three guys, and then eventually moving in with them. Lane managed to turn her childhood passion for music into a viable career, against all odds.Though her childhood arc relied heavily on exaggerated stereotypes of Asian Americans, Lane actualized the conflict of many children of color, struggling to reconcile respect for her heritage heritage and the wishes of her parents while simultaneously expressing her individuality, and on such an overwhelmingly white show, Lane’s voice is so incredibly important.
4. A Luke and Lorelai wedding
There has been fifteen years of romantic uncertainty between Luke and Lorelai. It’s time. The Sherman-Palladinos did an incredible job with the slow burn, choosing to prolong the tension rather than rush the pairs into a relationship, creating one of the most frustrating, but iconic romances in TV history. I think this star crossed couple and their fans have had their fair share of conflict and angst. We deserve a wedding.
5. Rory is single
There has been intense debate over which of Rory’s exes was the best. Dean was kind and supportive, Jess was Rory’s perfect counterpart in so many ways, and Logan was charming and charismatic, but ultimately, Rory’s relationships caused her more heartache than happiness. Each Gilmore guy uniquely reflected Rory’s needs and problems during their respective stints in her love life, but in my opinion, she deserves better than the confusion of her past relationships and that might not necessarily mean a relationship at all. According to the trailer, when we pick up in Stars Hollow, Rory is broke, lost, unemployed, and deeply confused. The last thing she needs is a man to complicate her already complicated situation.
6. The famous final four words
Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of Gilmore Girls, has said that since its conception, she has always known what the last words of the show would be. Unfortunately, since she did not write the seventh and last season of Gilmore, we never got to hear what those words would have been. Finally, after years of speculation, the eagerly anticipated reveal is less than a month away!
