If you’re anything like me then you’re lucky enough to have found a group of friends, you know would ride or die with you. Maybe you’ve known them forever, or maybe, like me, you managed to fall into a group of people who didn’t kick you out once they found out you were crazy. You’ve been together for birthdays, new jobs, heartbreaks, and big moves. They’re basically the first people you run to when literally ANYTHING happens to you. Someone probably even nicknamed you “the squad.” You can’t imagine what life would be like without them because they are your found family. If you’re one of the lucky ones like me, then you know what happens when your squad IS your family.
1. They know what you’ve been through.
They know your story. They know who you dated, who you “love” (even if it is someone new every week). They were there when your family life was rocky and you wanted to kill probably everyone. They know all the things that make you you, and they love you unconditionally.
2. They will celebrate literally anything with you.
No matter what time of day or what day of the week, your squad has enough essential members that you can always meet up with at least one when you’re ready to celebrate. New job? WOO! New boyfriend? WOO! Wore real pants and ate something other than mac and cheese for dinner? BREAK OUT THE CHAMPAGNE!
3. They’ve seen you at your best.
The good times. When you were flying high and they were right there with you. Those times where everything was going right and there was so much love because you realized how much everyone meant to you. The party wouldn’t be the same without them because someone probably baked you a cake or brought you cake flavored alcohol for the occasion.
4. They’ve definitely seen you at your worst (and they judge you accordingly).
No matter what has happened, they’re always there for you. When you have a mental breakdown because you have no idea what you’re doing with your life, they bring you pizza and watch sappy TV with you. When you’re too drunk to function, your friend walks all the way to you just to walk you home and make sure you’re safe. Or when they make sure you don’t pass out in the snow and die (RIP Tequila incident of 2016) No matter what, they’re always there.
5. You all know that everyone in the group has their purpose.
There’s the handy one, the sassy one, the one who actually has their life together, there’s DEFINITELY the crazy one (and you all know who that is) etc. And when someone is missing you can always feel it, but in everyone’s
6. You always know that no matter how far apart you are, they’ll always be there when you need them (and you'll ALWAYS need them).
You might be a state away, 49 states away, or in a different country, but no matter what you need or when you need it, someone will ALWAYS answer the phone. Real emergency and drunk tears alike. Thank god for FaceTime, am I right?
