The life of a Resident Assistant is a complex one. No ordinary person is cut out for the job. It's a high class balancing act. I took the job because I was just in your shoes a year ago-I had RAs that were both great and inspired me to do better than they did. I strive to make this place your home. I want to be a part of your success.
1. I'm here to help.
I've been around a loop or two. I'm a great resource and I genuinely want to help you succeed in your college career. I may not have all the answers but I can direct you towards the correct office saving you an awkward encounter roaming the halls of the administration building.
2. I'm a student too.
I'm not just this person hired by the school to let you into your room when you're locked out. I actually go here. I have homework, tests, and the dreaded finals at the end of the semester just like you. I may even have a class with you. After all, I'm only a sophomore.
3. Do not touch the hall decorations.
While you were soaking up the last two weeks of summer, I was making decorations for the hall. It took several hours. Please refrain from tearing them down. I will not be a happy camper if they are destroyed.
4. Come to the hall programs.
What's better than free food and prizes? In college, nothing, with the exception of free laundry day. Hall programs really are fun. It's a great opportunity to get to know your hallmates and RAs better. Next hall program in honor of Halloween season is Safe Sex Bingo on Wednesday, October 28th at 8:00pm in the basement of Stevens Hall. Bring all your friends!
5. I want to get to know you.
Chances are right now I don't know your name, but I want to. When I'm on duty, come talk to me; or as we're passing each other in the hallways, say hi and remind me what your name is. I will always give you a friendly hi back.
6. I'm on your team.
I'm not interested in writing you up but know I will if I have to. I was hired to help you. I am here to support you in your college career. From letting you into your room because you locked your keys in to cheering you on in all of your accomplishment. I care about you more than you will ever know.
