I've successfully completed my first two months in college now, and I am able to reflect on so many misconceptions I had about it. I came into it with ideas in my head about what everything would be like, and I can confidently say that much of what I thought college was like isn't true. College is great, don't get me wrong-- but it's not everything they might tell you. I'll let you in on some stuff.
You won’t ever get a full night of sleep.
As a college student, you just have to accept the fact that you're always going to be tired no matter how many hours of sleep you get.
There’s always work to do.
Work is a never ending to- do list, and if you think you're done, you probably forgot about the clothes you put in the washer last week.
Procrastination is your enemy.
Although deadlines may seem to be far, away they are closer than they appear. Do yourself a favor and start things days before they are due. You’ll be saving yourself a lot of time, as well as stress.
Do ask questions.
Asking questions may not always be easy, specially if you are shy. I’ve never really been a shy person, but when it comes to some classes, I know the feeling. I guarantee that if you ask questions, you’ll always get an answer. Like many have said: “there is no such thing as a stupid question.”
Don’t skip classes.
I know sometimes it may be hard to wake up for your 8 a.m. classes, but you will be glad that you did get up and go to class. Yes, it’s exhausting to be sitting in class that early but if you got through it in high school waking up at 6 a.m., you can certainly do it now. Also, you will be helping yourself, especially when your professors give pop quizzes.
Enjoy college!
Hey, you are here for a reason. One of them being that it’s your journey-- it’s all about you and what you make it. It's important to make your experience how you want it to go. Know your aspirations and take responsibility for your own decisions and passions!
